Well, I placed the order, they sent the confirmation email, and a few hours later they sent another saying the order has been voided.

Seems they fibbed. A bit.

Despite what the webpage claims, they don't have any of that item in stock, it is back ordered with the manufacturer, and they don't know when it will be back in stock. So I took the part number and googled it see how much it would cost elsewhere. Turns out, they were selling replacement plastic helmet shells, not full up welding helmets. No glass, no batteries, no nothing else. That is not what the big picture shows, but if you read the (and it is actually large type) top of the busy screen, it does in fact say no head band, no glass. So just as well for me that it was out of stock, 'cause I would have been pissed when it came in!

If you trust that online store (???) they have one other item for under $190 that claims to be a full helmet with 3M Speedglas 100v

???????> $50   <??????   but I do not know why it is less than 1/3 the price of every other 3M Speedglas helmet they sell.

The most credible looking online, non-ebay with the VARIABLE dark 100v 3M Speedglas looks to be $150

Not quite rush out and get 2, but I am thinking about putting in an order, because I haven't like the HF one so far.

Don't know if this was first posted here or in the IRC chan I sit on.
Figured it was worth a repost anyway. This is a hackerspace, just
make that :D

Scary!

At first I thought those where pneumatic pistons that would flip the lens down faster than auto darkening. Looks like more than a one-weekend hack, too. But high dynamic range viewing would make it so much easier for people like me to make a decent looking weld! Maybe if the low level camera image were reflected off the inside of the lens like a heads up display.
