Hey! Does anyone else have anything ready to cast this weekend?

I have a couple patterns I have started coating with texture, but given another week I could make sure they were very dry. and produce more. I really have no preference, so I will take consensus.

This week or next?

I don't have anything ready, so next Sunday is better for me, but I can probably attend on either date.

cheers,
c

Next Sunday it is my friends!  I will end out a reminder later in the week.

A couple people have asked about 3D printing molds for casting;
I just recently found this site which has an example of doing just that:

Thanks! That is a good find. He cleared up a couple of questions I was thinking through.

1) 102% print adjusts for shrinkage as the aluminum cools.
2) PLA does produce ash, but you can blow it out with compressed air.
3) The curing temperatures of investment is less critical than they seem from reading the documentation.

I am adding lost PLA from the Ultimaker to my list. It looks like next month (or sooner) will be taking a 3D print to aluminum part!

For anyone who wants to join me, I have commercial jewelry casting investment to share.

What size could we try out Sunday?

I am pouring four or more medallions, that won't use a lot of metal. Pretty much anything that could be placed in a 4x4 cube should be doable with the drying time we have left in the week. I would say nothing with a high degree of detail and not smaller that 2x2 . But that's a wild guess. :)

I have put together my B9Creator DLP type 3dPrinter, and I thought I would bring it to the casting party tomorrow, if anyone wants to have a look at it.  It isn't running yet, as the software hasn't been released.  The whole point is that it should be able to make very nice "lost wax" patterns for casting.

Would be awesome to see this come in on a 3D printing night sometime too.  No one has really brought anything other than extruder based printers so far.  Would be cool to see the DLP method in person.
