Would anyone be interested in having more healthy snacks around the lab?

Unfortunately I cannot eat anything with wheat (gluten) and it makes eating at local restaurants and fast food places around Heatsync sort of difficult and bad for me. I need to go to the grocery store and start making healthy snacks to the lab. I'm curious if anyone would be like to throw money down for healthy snacks - something similar to money donations for pop.

Suggestions types of snacks, ways to store stuff in the lab and thoughts on the matter are welcomed. :-)

I'd love to see some avocados and such in the back. They usually last longer
than normal fruits and are so delicious.

+1 Ingrid. For storage you may be able to appropriate one of the two mini-fridges in the back. I'll pitch in some startup cash. I will be able to swing by after lunch and drop it off.

IMO, using the back for food is sub optimal. Is there any way we can find a space up front?

In July, Mike W. suggested stocking snacks but nothing happened. I'm in favor of something nonperishable and easy to buy in bulk, like:

Unsalted nuts, dried cranberries, beef jerky...

In this case, both healthy AND gluten free!
(Sugar is nice, but it sucks when it's your only option. I'd love to see unsweetened tea and coffee again, too.)

Kudos and $$$ to you if you help make this happen :)

I did talk to Jacob about this, using the vending machine in the front (which is his).

Basically, the machine needs some work (I think it needs a new mechanism for taking money if I remember).

I didn't get a good feeling from Jacob whether he would be willing to let HS use the machine - so it was a decent amount of politics to 1)get money to repair the machine 2) get Jacob to allow us to use it

So I dropped it.  I am willing to pick it back up - as I think it could actually be a revenue generator for the lab.

Jacob - what are your feelings on us using the machine?

We could also use the honor system on a shelf/fridge/etc since the machine might be an obstacle.

I have a fullsize fridge I can long term loan. It hasn't been plugged
in in a few years, but it's practically brand new and it has just been
sitting in my garage acting as a shelf for my drum things for most of
its life.

Does somebody have a truck that can help me get it to the lab? I do
not think it will fit in my Jeep :(

I basically live off seaweed. Not sure how that is relevant. But I wouldnt mind stock piling some seaweed in the lab and sharing.

Also nuts are a good option.

So no matter what, I'll be bringing healthy snacks to the lab soon. I got sick eating soy sauce the other day. It was no fun. Aside from seaweed, does anyone have suggestions of healthy foods they would like to see in the lab?

I like the idea of fruits/veggies... but I am afraid they either will be eaten right away or else they will go bad and be ignored. It might be nice to keep a supply of nuts, cheese sticks, light-sugar fruit cups, beef jerky, yogurt, etc..? Suggestions?

Ryan do you have a picture of your full size fridge?

Heatsync really needs a kitchen. :-/ Putting together a kitchen would be awesome!! ...but I don't know how doable it is.

There's a toaster oven and a hot plate in the soldering area

Um, maybe we should put it where the "non-functional" vending machine is?

Funny, when I started the thread, I was suggesting we fill it with Junk Food.  I guess we have different priorities.  There were lots of suggestions for other healthy snacks in the other thread:  https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!searchin/heatsynclabs/vending/heatsynclabs/yVxNIXFBdSU/l23_1UjOPuUJ

Wondering if the honor system works at HS - do we usually break even for the soda?  Anyone know?

Uh... cooking around the soldering area is not good. I've had lead poisoning before. Not fun. Bad idea.

The space under the stairs contains much paint that could be relocated to the upstairs corner above the bathroom.
Remove the door under the stairs and put it with the cans of paint.
Relocate the mini fridge to under the stairs.
Relocate the microwave to be on top of the fridge.
Perhaps use the cubby square where the sporks are as a cash box.
Cover the front of it with a clear unit of acrylic with a laser cut slot for cash.
It could be attached with hinges and secured a lock.
Never, ever, enter the lab with Corn Nuts.

KitchenSync phase 1 progress report.

Mini-fridges, and microwave now accessible. And everyone's nasty old leftovers thrown away.  Probably should keep those in the back instead of the Monster/drink fridge in front.

WOW! that was fast!

May I suggest stocking plastic bowls, plates, cups, spoons, forks?

Also, does canned fruit count? Seems like pineapple, pears, fruit cocktail would be high in HFCS, but at least somewhat healthy. Can opener, even if just the old G.I. Joe P-38 could also come in handy.

I do have a truck that is capable of moving a refrigerator, and muscles that are also (somewhat less) capable.

Can be available anytime on Thurs or Fri during the day, and probably this weekend (the in-laws are in town so I guess I need an excuse to be away from home).

Let me know if you would like help with Kitchensync setup.

I love it when a good idea catches fire! All hail Ingrid!

I am a little concerned about the dirt and saw dust generated in the back shop. Would it be possible to put a door on that shelf unit?
