I've talked to a few of you about going down to Skyventure Arizona and doing some wind tunnel time. If you have no idea what it is, or how fun it is check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqB9fjHJtiU and their website. None-the-less, if people are interested we can get a small group discount and call it a HSL day (Hell even ustream it). The venue is 61miles south of HSL in Eloy Arizona and plan on being there for about 2hrs. There is also a bar and restaurant on site and its a great place to go, watch some skydiving, do some tunnel time and then guzzle down a few beers and trade stories. You're looking at $80+tax for the longer session or $50+tax for the shorter session. With 5+ people they take it down 5 bucks a piece, for 20+ there is a $10 a piece discount. It's a blast and I've never talked to anyone who said it was not worth every penny. I've seen people from 3yrs fly into there all the way to 80+, it's safe and a ton of fun. If you are under 6 ft tall the weight limit is 230, over it's 250 (I'm pretty friendly with all the instructors so let me know your situation and I can see if we can't slip you in).

BTW, I don't make any money off of this or work directly for Skyventure Arizona, just think it will be a fun outing.

I'm thinking about a Saturday afternoon sometime in December. We can also do sometime within the week when most people are off from work and school. This is their busy season so if we are going to do it in December now is the time to make the reservations.

Once I get a feeling, I will set a date and organize it.

There is a new one at I-17 and 15th street. http://skypilotvwt.com/
I can't tell if it's actually open yet.

Karl thanks for keeping an eye out. I've seen and flown similar and this is completely different. Skyventure Arizona is a 5 million+ dollar facility with 4 electric turbine driven fans which suck the air out of a compression style, fully enclosed chamber. We all use this to train for competitions, ourselves, and military. I have over 20 hours Skyventure Az and similar tunnels and probably around 20 minutes in these outdoor carnival rides styles and must say its completely different. The one in phx is a "kiddie ride" and is no comparison. Imagine trying to fly on the tip of a cone vs. fly on flat laminar air, the flat air is similar to skydiving, the cone is difficult and nothing like it. That is the difference between facilities.

You should come down, its a blast!

I didn't realize they were different machines. That's good to know. I was excited that they moved in just down the street from our shop. But now I think I'll save my money for the real one. Unfortunately I won't be able to go in December.

Due to no one saying anything about this I'll just pass up organizing it. If anyone ever does feels like flying, let me know and I'll try and book some time after your class so we can fly together. I have a good amount of time on my account to burn.

I definitely want to do this sometime.  I'm going to be heading out of country half of December though.  If no one else voices interest I'll hit you up personally as you suggested.  Looks like it would be a blast.

Paul,

That's the limit bro, just skip a meal, eat some fiber, let it work, and come on down. :-)
