Launching www.checkgaadi.com - Used-vehicle inspection services for second-hand vehicles before sale/purchase

Dear community members,

Today we are happy to announce the productive launch of www.checkgaadi.com – a one stop portal to get a vehicle professionally inspected before buying (or even selling). We cover all brands of cars and two-wheelers and we have chosen Bangalore as the first place to start with. We will rapidly expand to other Tier 1 cities as the operational details are being finalized.

At a macro-level we aim to bring the much needed transparency into used vehicle transaction space through www.checkgaadi.com – We hope to help both buyers and sellers of used vehicles with this solution. Buyers get a technical opinion in the form of a fairly comprehensive yet extremely simple to understand report (checkout the sample report here); sellers can use this inspection report to differentiate their vehicle in a crowded marketplace and close the sale much faster with a premium for quality.

Specific issues we are trying to address:

Physical inspection of the vehicle is an indispensable part of the buying process. At present however, if one wants to get a professional opinion on the quality of vehicle, one invariably ends up at the neighborhood garage hoping to catch the “expert” to accompany them to the vehicle location. There are several issues with this approach –

• There is no way to confirm the “expertise” of mechanic unless you know them personally
  
• Even if one books an appointment with a mechanic in advance, the likelihood of him eventually showing up will be decided on his workload just before the scheduled appointment. In other words, there is no guarantee that the guy will show up and there is nothing one can do about it.
  
• No way for someone to know if the mechanic is really impartial. One would know several examples where money was added to the mix to dilute professional ethics. Of course not everyone can be influenced like this but one needs to be extra cautious when stakes are high.
  
• This ad-hoc mechanism provides you verbal feedback on the perceived condition on the vehicle. As soon as you step out it is usually forgotten. There is neither a documented reference for later nor specific details on observed issues. You cannot even consult later with anyone else as you have nothing to show but only few observations which you still hopefully remember.
  
• The feedback, especially the contentious ones, may create an open debate where everyone is trying to defend their position simultaneously.
  
• Price demanded by the mechanic can be totally random at times.
  

How are we fixing these issues:

Very interesting idea. Will you be able to stand by your report in case of any discrepancy? Essentially, a chain-of-trust matter. Where are your mechanics trained? Would any automaker support the findings?

Some questions I could not find the answers to - how long does each check take? some things are checked through cumbersome processes - brake pads for example. Will the mechanic be able to handle this alone?

We have been exploring tie ups with partners like you for an initiative that we are launching on providing User Car Warranty. We intend to provide that to vehicles which are up to 7 years old and not having done more than 100,000 Kms. The inspection of such we would like to outsource to partners much as you.

Thanks for your feedback and wishes. The inspection is done by our technicians as per their experience and knowledge. We put in processes to recruit only the technicians which clear our quality bar. Several observations are subject to individual understanding and interpretation and therefore we make it clear to the customer that the report is based on the judgement of our technicians based on physical inspection of the vehicle at the specific time and location.

The car inspection usually takes between 45 mins to 60 mins depending upon the quality/brand of vehicle. For bikes it is usually around 30 mins.

Today I am happy to report that we are able to grab the #1 rank in the Google search results for "check gaadi" (without quotes) keywords. A modest start but certainly quite encouraging for all of us at CheckGaadi :) Now that the wheels are in motion its time to optimize for other relevant search patterns.
