Need full time Java developer also should be good with databases. If
efficient with RoR , PHP python then would also do.
We are an early stage start-up, looking for kick ass developer who can
be integral part of the company...
Location: Mumbai
1-2 years of experience would be really great.
Salary : as per industry standard + stock options

Hello,

This is the similar problem/requirement I need.
As in even Im a part of small startup here in  mumbai , and looking for a java developers.
The problem is either I cant seem to find talent or if talent is there , the salary expectations are too high.

Our product is state of the art , the tech stack is hibernate4 , Spring Security , JSF2.0 , Mysql , JPA , Primefaces.

Is there any site which has info on freelance developers/Interns. I would prefer to work with guy who has a zeal to learn things and passionate about technology.

Hi Group Members,

I was going through this topic and though of introducing our organization.

We are running consultancy services from Delhi-NCR and work on Pan India basis. We deal in multiple industries and our main focus is on Start-ups as we are also under the same stage. As we understand start-ups need multi-tasking employees and doesn't want to pay standard consultancy charges (i.e. min 8.33%). We provide manpower services (permanent placements) to start-ups at 15 days salary charges and are currently serving couple of clients of this group as well.

In case your organization needs an professional help then kindly let us know through email or can visit our website as well.

Greetings,
This is not answer of this question, but my opinion.

I share your pain, but little differently,

Currently I am leading a java project in a mumbai based startup as a freelance contractor,
I was suppose to expand their team by hiring few good java developers ,
and after taking approx. hundred interviews, we found only one guy, who later decided to not join
I realize that finding and hiring good tech people is one of the hardest thing and also very important factor for successful tech-startup.

What we look for is good-tech-expertise + ready-to-work-in-startup (extra hours, multitasking, small setup) + okay-with-job-insecurity, these combination is hard to find.

Thanks,
Nachiket

Hi Great's,

Let me share with you, an average employee's perspective of a start-up.
Ever since I started my career, I have worked with start-ups only . I have been interviewed by many of them.(converted almost all).
1.Most of the Start-ups are cash-starved, they try to squeeze as much as they can in their favor.
2. With a start-up, I feel the freshers take the most risk, if the company shuts down with in a year or so, employee will land up in soup, the founders having vast experience will easily find another job.
3. Switching technologies: You work on Java, Jquery, JSP, CSS, Struts....... , switch between them on an hour basis, and end up mastering nothing. :(
4. You are out of options, given a job, the employee can rarely say, "See boss, this is not what I want to do, I feel I got a better skillset for something else". Best case (although the probability is 0.1): Even if the boss wants to help you, he cant, as he himself ain't got options.:)
5. Many start-ups say, we give you stock options. Ask any seasoned investor and you would know, its a long way for the stock to unleash itself.
6. Worst of all, some bosses are close to tyrant. :(

The views shared above are to highlight the negative side from an employee's perspective, nevertheless, there are ample of +ve, else I wouldn't be working with a Start-up :P. This is my understanding after talking to lot of freshers, first gen entrepreneurs, recruitment firms.

Rajat

Friends,

This entire subject is a science in itself and below is the way I have tacked this for my company. It has worked for me big time (needs patience, energy & faith) and it is not necessary it will work for you (if you are in hurry) also but for what it's worth here is my story so far and I can write 100 page material on it but I am sure it won't sell today so I will start with a small email, for what it's worth and I am writing this in a hurry so please do pardon my quick email drafting skills  -

Somewhere in 2008 when I decided to start on my own with a friend, one the worry was who would work for us ? Cash starved , as someone pointed out is how people looked at us and it was no point explaining everyone about the ultimate goal then and even now. So this is what I did. Immediately  after quitting for next 1500 hours or so I prepared a "course material" and a "process". My background helped a bit here. I had taught folks earlier but that does not matter much. I still remember the first 5 freshers who came to us in 2008 had problems in finding keys on the keyboard. All MCA's. Not their fault. I was very clear about not to look for a "kick ass" programmer as they are called these days. Now I wonder if we have created a "kick ass" process which can churn this kind of engineers for us, on demand.

Fast forward 4 years, today in 2012 we are still not a very big team (nature of our work) but if I do a quick math I must have trained 100 freshers in house using the "process" and the "material". Both of them needless to say has improved over time. How many did I hire out of 100 ? Well, around 30, over some time. Are they still there with me ? No, they are at MNCs now and they are my good friends. Some of them want to come back, for lower salaries by the way and are now interested to hear about the big picture but that honestly was not planned. Some of them are still around and make more than they would make outside and are doing some real cool work. At any point of time I always have 30-40 of them making world class solutions for my customers at a very young age. Nothing less but world class and yes, at any point of time I am always training 20 of them. Always.

I would urge entrepreneurs of today not to always look for "kick ass" guys (waste of time) but create a "kick ass" process. That would mean to slow down and think. The guy who is having a tough time to find keys on the keyboard needs you more and he is capable but was not fortunate enough to do the right things earlier because of hazar reasons. The "smart chap" will get a job anyway, sooner or later. I have heard the story of hiring smarter folks than yourself and I agree to that but till that happens you will have to survive and for survival without funding (which is freedom lost to some extent) you might want to create a "setup" and be "ready". Smart folks will come later and some of your own warriors will get smart enough. Just to end this, I know one engineer who joined me in 2008 and wrote some 70% of a complex world class platform that is still used by biggest loyalty management provider in Asia and controlled by one of biggest loyalty provider in Europe. They use the platform which these engineers wrote even today.

A moment of joy.

Now, if you are funded and have $$$ with you, your troubles could be different.

Thanks for reading.

regards,
rohit
