RF Burns,

Good Post as long as you put IBOC or HD Radio at the Start of
the Subject-Line of these IBOC / HD Radio Posts : You will not
see me posting to them; except to actually make a Comment.

-wrt- Did I Get The Math Right? : Fuzzy Logic =equals= Fuzzy Math

The $400M was spent to Try-and-Influence the 300M present
day Analog "Only" AM/FM Radio Listeners in the USA.

Doing-the-Math - For These Listeners would come out to be
about $1.33 for every 'potential' Radio Listener; that could be
"Sold-on-the-Idea" of "HD" Radio -as- Being Something They
Both "Want" {It's New ! :o} and Have-to-Have. {It's Digital ! :o}

$NOTE$ - A $1.33 per Radio Listener per Year with Hourly
and Daily Radio ADZs {PSAs} is : cheap, Cheap. CHEAP !
-note- As soon as Congress / The FCC Mandates All Digital
Mode AM/FM/DS Radios : All the former "HD" Radios ADZs
will be Income-Off-Setting "PSAs" for the Radio Stations.
This is a $-}} = I See Money Big Smile Happy Face $-}}

RF Burns - You are Focused on short-term 'results'.

While the "HD" Radio 'Alliance' is Interested in Long-Term
[Bottom-Line] "Results" over the next Decade for AM/FM Radio.

The "HD" Radio 'Alliance' has the Money and Commitment for
a 5~10 Year Program to Transition the USA to "HD" AM/FM
Radio; plus the Political resources to Make-It-Happen by an
Act-of-Congress and/or Rulling by the FCC; which I suspect
is coming in the next 3 Years to require that all 'new' Radios
being Built or Imported in to the USA will be All Digital-Mode
AM/FM/DS "HD" Radios with Dual Mode IBOC and a Built-in
Direct-Satellite Interface.

NOTE - The Price Point of these All Digital-Mode AM/FM/DS
"HD" Radios will Drop Annually over a Period of several Years :
[ Using a 1/3 (-33%) Price Reduction per Year ]
$500 for Year # 1 > $335 for Year # 2 > $225 for Year # 3 >
$150 for Year # 4 > $100 for Year # 5
SO - At the End of Five (5) Years the Price of the 'new' All
Digital-Mode AM/FM/DS "HD" Radios will be back at the
present day Price to US Consumers for the old Analog "Only'
AM/FM Radio that has been around for 40 Years.

- Lets see now - 400 Million spent on HD Radio ads and
- 300,000 radios sold so far - and that's probably inflated.
-
- Ok, that amounts to....... $1333.33 spent for each listener
- roughly speaking of course.
-
- Did I get the math right?
- Is that a valid way of looking at it?.
-
- Now its possible that there are two people listening
- to the same radio.
- OK......That amounts to.....$666.66 per listener.
-
- Help me out here.
- Doesn't seem too successful to me.
-
- J.R. Stocks. Could you help me on this?

"HD Radio spinners claim a breakthrough year: Pulling a fast one"

"According to a press release from the Alliance 330,000 HD receivers
were sold last year. This is a 725 per cent increase from the 40,000
sets purchased a year earlier and therefore 2007 was a 'breakthrough
year' for the technology. In 2008 they will sell a million of the
things."
