I am making a Nanosumo bot for Robogames, but the wheels are both sticking in a spot. I think it is because they toe-in slightly and are rubbing on the PCB.

I think if I can remove .25mm of PCB I can fix it, but I don't want to damage the wheels. (They are 3D printed ABS with .5mm walls for the pully). I tried fine grit sandpaper and scraping with an xacto but didn't make any progress. I have attached a photo.

I cant tell how much space you really have to work with. My first thought was a diamond jewelers file or maybe a metal nail file. My wife has a nail file like this and I'm surprised at how corse it is. Might have to cut the tip off to get straight to the good stuff.

You need to use a jeweler file to work the tough Fiberglas. File down,
then use sand paper to finish the edge.

Where would I get a jewelers file, Michaels?

They are often called Swiss Pattern files, or needle file sets.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#swiss-pattern-files/=md27nt

I have sets of 12 files, made by DICK, West Germany.

Thanks to everyone who helped me last time. I have a question though. The belts on my robot are slipping. I made the belts out of stretch magic from Michaels, its like stretchable fishing line. I tried dipping the belts in Coke but that didn't work. I also tried getting small rubber bands to no avail (the bands need to be <1mm wide). I called Orthodontists to get the small rubber bands for braces as well as Walgreens and CVS. I have 1 day until Robogames and I am feeling the pressure. Here is a photo. Thanks.

Wes,
I bought an o-ring kit from Harbour Freight but the o-rings are too stiff. The belt needs something more flexible.

You couldn't find a small O-ring?

if you need ortho bands in a short notice, go to the nearest magic shop, they have them usually because they are used with folding coins for putting them in bottles.  tell them you have a folding coin that needs replacement bands, they will know what you need....

If you are talking about the belts on you wheels that you are using for tread, couldn't you just put a few drops of superglue on them

That's a thought. How about the tool-dip plastics they offer? you
could cast a layer on the wheel, and then trim it.

Alan, it's called Plastidip and works pretty well for wheels. Only problem is it does kind of go on chunky. For general purpose it works well but not sure how well it would do for in a competition of traction. Might work though.

How about getting a piece of surgical tubing from lowes/homedepot/osh/
etc. of an approriate ID and cut it into sections like calamari
rings. You could cut it whatever width you need. The stuff is really
really flexible so you can get a piece smaller than the wheel diameter
and stretch it. It is also pretty "sticky."

The surgical tubing idea seems good. I will give it a try.

Hi Preston,

Yeah, that's it. I've got a few wheels I'd like to try it on, although
the plan was to cut a groove to match some big O-rings (2.5" dia) for a
floor-bot.

Or a bicycle inner-tube. Racing tire tubes might be small enough.

The robot is functioning, barely. Does anyone know what time competitors can show up tomorrow? The website says noon for spectators, but can competitors show up earlier?

Here is a video of todays Nanosumo. Also a guy's robot catching fire and some lego sumo. I was first up again a watchmaker. It was fun.
