Keller spoke to the club awhile back. I ran across this video of a
TED presentation he did.

Thanx Jim for sharing. I like his little (toy) robot, it's got personality. For a while I've been professing the use of Smart phones to control bots. I built one, bigger than the previous ones that I've been experimenting with. It's about 36" tall and walks on carpet. I'm using a "used" $20 smart phone, without a service contract, since none is needed. I'm also using a Basic app for the control software. There's nothing to cross compile download or anything to flash. I'm using Bluetooth to control the DC motor controller from Pololu. I did away with the microcontroller and servos and gave everything to the Smart phone to do. Since the Smart phone has built in everything needed to control the bot. I'm still working on the software, and some on the mechanical hardware. I'm currently looking for a Fresnel lens that I can use to make the Smart phone screen look bigger, such as in the movie Brazil.

Cesar,

Now this sounds cool.  Your control falls back to the same thing as RC control which I love.  Please keep us informed as you move along.

As soon as the bot is mostly done, I will post pics.
Yesterday I found the Fresnel lens at officeDepot and I thought that 4"x6" would do, but I can see that a larger lens would work better, and make the cellPhone look bigger. This is what the lens looks like: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/787235/Carson-MagniMark-Magnifier/

I was inspired or motivated to make the bot based on the Nunzilla windup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqpnrDdTlhg. It's best to watch the video without sound.

Since my earlier school years where in an all boys Catholic school, I was able to extract from the windup the important info for my bot design, once I got over the trauma from those early years in a Catholic school.

I had thought of making a walking bot like this sometime ago, but thought that wheels on a bot were better to negotiate on carpet and found out that my thinking was wrong. With this walking design I believe that I can further modify the bot to walk up the stairs.

Cesar,

RV stores like Camping World used to sell big Fresnel lenses.

I understand the recovering Catholic thing, too.
