All:

A number of people at the HBRC meeting on Wednesday asked me how to
get a Raspberry Pi. The latest news from newark.com (a subsidiary of
element14) is:

We [Newark] will be opening up to general Raspberry Pi orders on
Thursday 5th July. Therefore we will cease to take registrations
from Monday 2nd July. Any Registrations placed up until Monday
2nd July will be invited to order prior to general orders commencing.
You will be able to place your order directly from Thursday 5th
July on an ongoing basis, for deliveries in approximately 4 weeks.

The factories in China have to be really cranking on these things
out right now.

Regards,

-Wayne

Also can I add, if you need some help getting started here is a quick list of things to get you going

I haven't added a guide to using GPIO yet but it will be coming once I get a chance to start playing with them.

All:

The latest news on Raspberry Pi is that the limit of one per
customer has been lifted by both vendors (RS Components and
Element14/Newark.) Apparently, the current production rate
for Raspberry Pi's is now 4000/day (across both vendors I
think.) That works out to 3/minute. I think the vendors
are still ramping up manufacturing capacity. Anticipated
lead time is now 4-6 weeks.

I was going to order another one yesterday from Newark.com but it wouldn't let me if I selected US. Other counties I could.

William:

Try again today. The Newark Part number is 83T1943. It is out of
stock with a lead time of 29 days. I was able to add it to my
cart. (I don't need another one, so I did not proceed through
checkout.)

-Wayne

Thanks! I have one setup with a project, so I was thinking of another to play around with.

I have one setup with CommandIR to control the TV/Xbox via PHP and then can be controlled via voice on my desktop PC sending commands to the PI

I might use one to handle xbee traffic around the house as I add more Robots/Home Automation stuff.

In the course of the project I came up with a good way to access GPIO's without loosing security if anyone is interested.
