The main meeting in June kicks off HBRC's Annual Robot Challenge
Events. Last year we added the Floorbot Challenge. This gives people
with robots too big to fit on a table a chance to show off their robots
under actual test conditions. The Floorbot Challenge is even more "free
form" than the Tabletop Challenge so you can make it accommodate the
talents of your robot. You can follow the three levels of the Tabletop
Challenge except on the floor or you can make up your own challenge.

The only rules we have so far is that your robot (due to size and
weight) must be safe to operate around people. We don't want to have to
require the RoboMagellan style kill switches or build barriers to try to
protect spectators and Google infrstructure. The first robot to run amok
and damage someone or something will have the new rules named after it
and its creator letting them forever live in infamy.

The other consideration is space. Generally, we have a limited amount
of open space available at the meetings so you should consider that
along with how spectators will view the robots. (Maybe our audio-visual
folks can set up a camera to project the robots on the big screens?)

I'll bring the set of two colored pylons to the Challenge meetings so
they'll be available to mark a course or however you envision using
them. NONDESTRUCTIVELY!

So people with big robots, figure out what you want to do and get busy!

For the record the three basic levels are:

Phase I: Build a robot that goes from one end of the room to the other and back.
Phase II: Have the robot locate an object in the room.
Phase III: Fetch the object.

Thanks,
Camp

I like Tim's definition better--Pi Robot already does a great impression of a mobile hat and coat rack.

And Pi has those wild high aspect ratio eyebrows like one of my aero professors.
