Large numbers of this tiny migrant moth have come into the country
this summer. I have been catching a lot in my Yorkshire garden moth
trap, for instance, for several weeks.
I was amazed, though, to record so many while walking across Foinaven
in NW Sutherland, today. For 18 miles, travelling up to a height of
914m, I was disturbing them with virtually every step. At times, 10
would come up with each step. With no exaggeration, tens of thousands
must have been there, altogether. They were just as common on the tops
as lower down. An incredible, if rather tiny, migrant spectacle!
