For the actors and crew that join together during this period, it is a
time to creatively spend that changing span from the basking rays of
the sun up until the first hint of snow. For the audiences that attend
the show's run, it is a tradition that is as exciting and remembered
as are those first cool breezes of each October.
The 2006 season closer will be "Squirrel Lake" by Brian Mitchell, a
rolling and fast-paced physical comedy that borders on farce; keeping
the laughs coming from sharp-witted dialogue as well as the action. The
show is rated PG for mature themes. This show runs October 2nd thru 7th
at 7:30 each night. Optional desserts are offered at intermission from
a local charity.
Michael Shoopman, who last season directed "Bedroom Farce," and
"Scotland Road," and this year's opener "Divorce Southern
Style," will direct the production. His selection of this show was
based in part upon the overwhelming popularity and success of his run
of "Cash On Delivery" which smashed attendance records in 2002.
Shoopman states, "This script has the potential to delivery the same
punch as 'Cash,' which audiences were drawn to in waves. Hang on
folks, this will be another fun ride; I personally guarantee you will
laugh out loud, or double your frowns back."
The play deals with misidentified characters and a sense of comedic
timing so necessary to bring over-the-top humor to the stage. The
Olsens own a cabin in the backwoods of Wisconsin on the edge of
Squirrel Lake, and gather there to read the matriarch's will - a
seemingly simple act - made unseemingly insane as the plot develops
into chaotic extremes with characters that will split your sides with
amazing revelations and personalities that are...well....let's just
say they will make total confusion seem banal in comparison.
JEFF BLUML as Phillip Olsen - A forty-year-old Chicago lawyer. He is
divorced with no children.
DANA WESTPHAL as Patrick Olsen - Phillip's younger brother. He is
single and works at Captain Happy's Burger Barge.
JOAN MEYER as Sally Olsen King - The middle sibling. Sally is a soccer
mom to four kids. She is married to Bob.
TERRY DESSINGER as Bob King - A sports journalist for the Chicago
Tribune. Bob is married to Sally. He lives and dies by the Chicago
Cubs.
TIMI JORDISON as Sister Mary Elizabeth Catherine Theresa - A nun. She
is a sister to Lance.
JEFF THELEN as Detective Lance Hardy - A Chicago police detective
currently bordering on a nervous breakdown.
LORI CASSADY as Joy - Captain Happy's daughter. She has a serious crush
on Patrick.
This Olsen siblings, Phil, Sally, and Patrick; meet at their family's
summer home to read their recently deceased mother's will. Through a
series of unfortunate misunderstandings, it appears that the neighbor
claiming to be a nun is actually a prostitute, that Phil has
accidentally broken the law and helped his law firm swindle the nun's
mother out of her house in Chicago, that the nun's brother, Lance, is
insane and seeking revenge, and that Patrick has a stalker in the form
of his boss's daughter, who also happens to be a psychic sent by the
deceased mother to act as the vehicle of her will. Sally's husband,
Bob, is a walking accident, and their children are completely out of
control (and also off stage the entire play.). When the family decides
that the nun/prostitute is possibly carrying Bob's child, things get a
little out of hand!
