Hi All,

So I have been trying to update my vista for sometime now. I got the
files from worldvista.org recently and was upgrading from my previous
version. Now I hopelessly failed in that task. So I create a new user
on my linux box. Since I already have GMT installed for the other
instance of vista I just configured the env file for the new instance.
So GTM launches the GTM command prompt.

When I type GDE though I get the following error:

xVista@system:~$ GDE
%GDE-I-LOADGD, Loading Global Directory file
/home/xVista/EHR/g/mumps.gld
%GDE-I-GDUNKNFMT, /home/xVista/EHR/g/mumps.gld
is not formatted as a Global Directory

%GDE-E-INPINTEG, Input integrity error -- aborting load

Any inputs as to why I am facing this issue will be appreciated.

Regards
Shouvik

I presume that you have skipped the step regarding creating your MUMPS database.

Did you do a step that had "mupip create" in it?

I suspect he already has a mumps.dat, correct? I might be able to help you if
you can arrange for me to ssh into your machine. You can contact me off list
if you wish.

Hi David,

Like Nancy said. I already have the mumps.dat file in my system. The issue is apparently its not formatted as a global directory or so as the gt.m compiler says. Any ideas?

From the GT.M Messages and Recovery Procedures manual:

GDUNKNFMT, xxxx is not formatted as a global directory

GDE Information: This indicates that GDE could not load the specified file xxxx because it is not a valid Global Directory file. GDE aborts the load after it issues this message.

Action: Verify that the file is valid and look for typographical errors. Something other than GT.M or its utilities may have written to the Global Directory file or created a file with a name that coincides with the one specified by GTM$GBLDIR / gtmgbldir.

It would appear that the file on your system named mumps.gld is not a global directory file.  I don't know what it is.  So, I suggest you delete it and recreate it, since global directory files are easily recreated.  Or, instead of deleting it, rename it to something else till you figure out what it is.

Regards

P.S.  People often mix global directory files and database files - the are very different entities.

Hi Bhaskar,

I do believe that there should not be any issue with the mumps.dat file as I got the file from the worldvista.org links.
The issue I think could be with the fact that I am running an outdated version of GT.M which doesn't support the version of vista I am trying to install (using v 5.3, recommended 5.4).

If it is any help in identifying what the issue is, while fooling around on GT.M command I got the following error:

%GTM-E-GDINVALID, Unrecognized global directory file format: /home/balh../EHR/g/mumps.gld, expected label : GTCBDUNX005, found:GTCBDUNX006

Yes, I  know what that message means and what you need to do.  My belief is that to do a GT.M upgrade you need to understand what is going on under the covers and I would encourage you to work through the Acculturation Workshop.

As the saying goes, if a man gets a fish he has food for dinner, but if he learns how to fish, he has food for a lifetime.

And by the way, I am happy to play the part of teacher.  But instead of formulating the question along the lines of "This is my problem; what should I do" formulate them along lines such as "This is my problem; here's where I looked and it was not helpful because ..." or "This is my problem; here's where I looked and what I read was not clear because ...".

If you just want food for dinner rather than food for a lifetime, you're best served by hiring someone (no, not me) to get the job done for you.  Post a help wanted at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/worldvista-services

Hi All,

So I did update my GT.M to 5.4 and the error was gone. Just a faint idea of what might have been wrong though not completely sure what.

Bhaskar, I will go through the Acculturation Workshop material on sourceforge. I was wondering though if there is actually a workshop that is carried out that I could attend or are there web lectures I could see that would help me orient myself better? (You see I do intend to learn to fish ;) )

If using the option at the bottom of the email or signing on to the hardhats
site and discontinuing delivery of the email does not do the trick, let me
know and I will contact the list owners for you.
