hi
I have been facing network error "software refused connection" when i try to connect to my WorldVista on ubuntu 10.04. I have tried all the solutions mentioned on various ubuntu forums but can't get the bug out. So now i think i need to reinstall my ubuntu os.
I was thinking of shifting to fedora or redhats instead or ubuntu.

can the group provide me pointers on :
1. intersystem cache or mumps will be better ?
2. redhats or fedora  and particular version is better if  mumps is the answer to the above question ?

if anyone has a solution to fix my network error problem that's also welcome.

regards
rick

Can you SSH into the system? Where are you getting the error, on Ubuntu or on
the CPRS side? That seems like an odd wording. Also, you might try packet
sniffing to see what is happening. Can you telnet to the port and if you do,
what do you get?

Hi Nancy,

Yes its not exactly connecting to vista via ssh. It seems like the connection from the ubuntu system dies after a few minutes of usage. While the system is still connected to the lan as seen from the ubuntu desktop itself, we need to reset the connection to reach it from other computers in the lan(pinging the IP though doesn't fail, just ssh connections to the system are refused), almost like the heartbeat packets which I guess the system sends out are not reaching the server or the system is not sending a heartbeat packet out.
I have not tried sniffing the connection state, but that seems like a good idea. I wonder if going for a fresh start would be a better idea though. Fixing this issue may take a lot more effort than its worth!

You are SSHing to the VistA instance user I presume. I would also guess that
as long as you are actively working on the system, it is not cutting you off.
Is that correct?

Have you tried setting up a keep alive from the client end of the SSH
connection?

Once connections are deemed to be disconnected, servers will time out
normally.

I can try to help later in the evening.

1.) Cache and GT.M will both work. Switching to Cache is not likely to fix this.
2.)  Ubuntu should work / does work. Don't expect another Linux to fix this. You might as well debug what you have installed.

?? Rick, a couple questions:
A.) Your error... comes during attempt to connect w CPRS?
B.)  Can you connect from the server's command line / via ssh locally?
C.)  Can you connect from the client machine w putty?

Also, are you connecting, or trying to. from a local network or outside your
local network and if from outside, have you taken care of the port forwarding
to the correct machine? Do you have a dynamic IP?

I think we need a better description of exactly what you are doing for us to
help you more effectively.
