Hi,

I followed the instructions for setting up the VOE scanning software
(http://opensourcevista.net:8888/NancysVistAServer/Scanning/
ScanningDocs.zip), but am still having a bit of trouble.

For some reason, I can't get the VOE Scanning software to show me a
list of patients. The box is blank, even if I start to enter in
patient details (e.g. ZZ Patient) and press [Select a Patient].
However, I *can* see users under the "Author" tab. This suggests that
VOE Scanning is connecting to my server ok (I think?). (If I start up
CPRS logged on as the same user, I *do* see the list of patients in
the system (e.g. Zz Patient, Test One)

Any ideas??

Thanks!

Tony

Hi Wiley,

thanks for your advice -- I did try just 'Z' and it made no difference. Nothing shows up as an option, even when I press "Select Patient".

Could there perhaps be a setting that would means I can't see patients? (e.g. if another doctor was listed as the patient's doctor? This isn't the case when selecting patients through CPRS, so I'm not sure why it would be different here?).

Wiley,
Perhaps a screen shot may make your problem clearer to the Ones Who Know...

Hi Wiley, thanks for your thoughts.

I have double-checked that my user (in this case, DOCTOR, ONE) has access to the VOES SCANNING menu as a secondary menu.

Below is the PUTTY log showing the steps I've taken (which mirror yours).  Not sure it's relevant, but I tried adding "OR CPRS Chart" afterwards but got an error about needing to have XUMGR.  My user does have this already as a secondary option, though (and I use CPRS regularly with this user).

I've also attached a Windows screenshot which I hope may shed light.  As you can see, I can open the image viewer from within CPRS, and can also log onto the VOE SCanner.  I just can't actually see patients (though, again, I can see authors if I select that tab).

Does this help at all?

Tony

Tony,
I set this up tonight again and got it working.
I used the format lastname first character and last 4 of ssn i.e.
S7889
I used the format lastname ie. Stuckey
I used the format ZZ and got the ZZ's however it didn't work the first
time until i did the S7889

It appears that the selection process is a little flakey but does
work.
Try using the formats above and see if that clears up your issue.

PS. I can't remember the person who wrote this but someone on here
might can involve him to see if there is an issue with this patient
selection even though it works.

Hi David,

Following on from your e-mail earlier this week, I did a clean install of VistA, to minimise the chance that other factors ma have been causing my problem.  Unfortunately, even with a clean install, I'm still unable to see any patient names on the VOE Scanning tool--even though I can see system users.   My user does have the VFGS SCANNING menu as a secondary menu -- but this does not seem to be helping.

I look forward to any thoughts you might have!  (Would it help if I send a copy of the steps I took to install VistA, to ensure that I've not missed anything?)

With thanks and best regards,

Tony

Do you have an account there?

I tried to send a screenshot through my last post but it didn't seem

Could I perhaps send you a screenshot directly?

Thanks!

Is there a place where you could start to type a name on the patient screen?
If so, type ZZ there.

Hi Wiley,

Thanks very much for this -- I had another go at creating a dummy
patient and *could* see the patient when I type in the first letter of
the surname and the last 4 digits of the SS.

However, I can't get the Last Name search to work *at all* -- even if
I search for the same patient I had found using the surname+4 SS
digits.

The good news is that (it seems) my settings are ok -- but I can't
quite figure out why I'm still having trouble.

Thanks!

Tony

Hi Nancy,

I'm a bit closer to getting things to work now, I think. i had another go at Wiley's suggestion of using the surname + last 4 digits of the SS number and it worked!

Unfortunately, I *still* can't pull a record by entering in the surname. Nothing shows up unless it happens to already be in the patient list pulled from the first search.

I've enclosed some screen shots to illustrate my problem.

In the first screenshot, I've entered Z3322 to do a search for ZZ PATIENT, TEST ONE. This works.

In the second screenshot, I try to type in ZZ Patient and it completes this for me, assuming I want ZZ PATIENT, TEST ONE (who is already in the box).

In the third screenshot, I try to just do a search for ZZ PATIENT (erasing the ", TEST ONE") -- but nothing shows up now.

I look forward to any thoughts you might have!

Tony

Tony,
I think if you select one that the list will start filling up for you. As I
said before the selection process on this program seems a little flakey for
the times I've used it.
