Hi,

I have tried running the CPRS Query Tool that comes with Astronaut VistA 11.4, but the software just crashes (runs in the background as a process rather than an application).  It is clearly trying to do something, though, as it gives an error if I try to run it after closing the PuTTY connection (with a WSACONNREFUSED error).

Has anyone else had a similar problem?  (I am using Windows XP, and everything else (e.g. CPRS) seems to be working)

Thanks!

Tony

I wonder if the query tool uses the old broker. Try starting broker logging
(EVE->1->OPERATIONS->RPC->Debug->3) with nothing else using the broker, if
possible, and then connect the query tool. See if the XWB items have {} or []
around them right at the beginning of the conversation between the devices.
If the first few you see are {XWB}, then it is using the old broker.

Hi Nancy,

That makes sense -- unfortunately, I'm not sure how to access the broker (I know I can view broker calls in CPRS, but don't know whether that is limited to calls made by CPRS itself).

Could you advise? (I am using Astronaut VistA)

Thanks!

Tony

Are you able to stop all Broker activity other than using the query tool
(i.e., don't use CPRS for a bit)? If you can do that, clear the log and then
start the debugger, connect, and then stop the debugger and look at the log.

Did you find the Broker logging/debugger OK? Just run D ^XUP and then follow
the path through the options that I put there (EVE->1->OPERATIONS->RPC->Debug-
>3) to start logging/debugging). I think the query tool uses the Broker just
like CPRS, but I could be wrong. Maybe it uses VistALink.

Hi Nancy,

Thanks very much for your help on getting to the broker.

With CPRS shut down, I activated the debug, and then started the RPC
broker listener. I then tried to load the Query Tool (which hung in
the background), and then stopped the listener. I then viewed the XWB
log, which had the following:

Select RPC Broker Management Menu Option: view xwb log
Astronaut VistA Menu Option System
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Log Files

Log from Job 25507 6 Lines
04:18:05 = Log start: Oct 24, 2011@04:18:05
04:18:05 = XWBTCPM
04:18:05 = MSG format is {XWB} type OLD
04:18:05 = Connect: TCPconnect^127.0.0.1^3039^ucwavwtcep7ojnl^
04:18:05 = accept
04:18:05 = Callback: 127.0.0.1 :3039
Return to continue, Next log, Exit: Continue//

Based on this, am I right in saying that it is the old broker rather
than the new??

If so, does this involve a development update (e.g. for the Astronaut
VistA team), or is it a setting that I can change?

Thanks again for your help, and Happy New Year!

The query tool, I assume, is the one from the VA and may not have been coded
to work with the new broker. I would suggest you take a stab at searching the
VDL and seeing if it can be changed to use the new broker or if there is a
newer version that does.

The easiest way to do that search is to use the tool in the lower left hand
corner of the home page on http://Hardhats.org.

Hi Nancy,

I had a look through the VA documentation and it makes no mention of
broker settings -- it looks like it's hard-coded into the software
itself. I am using Astronaut VistA -- I wonder whether the Astronaut
team might be able to modify the settings at a code level?

I doubt the Astronaut team is ready to take that on. Let me see if we have
the source code for this yet (a FOIA request is in and I have been told that
they are hunting for source code for GUIs so we should get it soon if we don't
have it) and try to find out what it will take to fix it.

Tony,

If you are using the CPRS that comes with Astronaut, then you are
using TMG-CPRS. So I think any discussion of VA documentation etc is
going to lead you astray. I am responsible for TMG-CPRS, and my goal
has been to release early to get the tools into the hands of others.
I put a query tool into TMG-CPRS that has not been used much (see my
other post.) So you should consider yourself as a beta-tester if you
use it. If you want to figure the problems out on your own, I will
give you a few pointers if you want. If you want someone to get this
working on your system, please contact me off the list to arrange for
more personalized help.

Hi Kevin,

Many thanks for your reply, and apologies for the delay in
responding. Yes, I am using TMG-CPRS for our site in Pakistan. I
am happy to be a beta tester and am glad this tool is available.

I would be happy to explore potential issues, if you could point me in
the right direction. I note that Syed *has* been able to use the
Query tool, so I don't know if there is an issue with my settings or
the like (TMG-CPRS, VistA Config and other tools in the Astronaut
VistA package are working though?

In your other post, you mentioned that the Query tool won't work
without a Fileman patch by George Timson. Could you advise where we
might find this patch? (the relevant post is:

Best regards,

Tony,

I don't recall exactly where I got the latest Fileman. It seems that
George sent them to me directly. And it is not in the form of a
patch, but rather than in routines that should be used to overwrite
the routines on your system. And since George uses Cache', it seems
that the routines may have to be imported with DO ^%RI, but I can't
recall the details.

I would start by trying to downloading the V22 of Fileman here.

Best of luck.
