What to Bring
If you plan to attend the launch and subsequent chase of the balloon, remember that we will be spending several hours outside in hot, dry conditions with limited access to facilities. Retrieving the balloon will likely require hiking several miles across rugged terrain in very hot conditions. With that in mind, you should bring a small backpack with the following items. If you are participating in the recovery, the items in bold are required:

    For the flight:
    • READ THE BACK COUNTRY CHECKLIST
    • Water (hydration packs, like Camel Backs, are perfect) - at least three liters
    • Lunch
    • Snacks
    • Hat
    • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen
    • Sturdy shoes or hiking boots
    • Rain jacket or poncho
    • Personal items like tissues, chapstick, TP (read "there may not be facilities")
    • Cell phone
    • GPS Unit (optional)
    • FRS Radio, set to channel 40 or 50 (optional)
    • Ham Radio (optional)
    • Binoculars (optional)
    For camp:
      • Sleeping bag and pad
      • Tent (partner with folks to share)
      • Food for dinner and breakfast
      • Warm clothes (it gets cold in the desert)
Dr. Sohl wrote some very useful info here too

      Hey everyone,

I'm going out of town. I'll be in the Uintas for the next week.
Things are good to go on Pascal. It's all boxed and ready. I tried
making a new checklist, but turns out it's near impossible to figure
out how to do a printscreen on the Windows side of a Mac... Anyway,
I'll miss the pre-flight meetings, but I will meet everyone at the
