folks, I have been having trouble running multiple happstack apps
proxied behind apache, and it has resulted in significant patch-tag
downtime over the past several days. (Since patch tag, happstack
tutorial, and happs irc ligs are all on the same server).

As a step to eliminate possible sources of trouble, and hopefully
improve uptime as well, I have stopped running apache on the patch-tag
machine, and am now running patch-tag unproxied.

happs tutorial is still accessible behind port 5003, at
http://tutorial.happstack.com:5003

happs irc logs are off line. I will try to find some solution that is
more stable over the next couple of days, including possibly just
porting everything over to another machine.

That said, if there is anybody on the happs ng that can volunteer to
host happs tut and happs irc at no cost, please get in touch with me
-- I would be most obliged :)

If not, I have an offer to host at a reduced cost, or I might continue
to host at the patch-tag box as long as I can figure out a way to do
this without downtime.

For now I need to concentrate on improving patch-tag uptime.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

thomas.

I have a box you can use. It already runs an instance of gitit behind
lighttpd. Setting up more happs instances shouldn't be a problem.

Lemmih,

I recently ported the happstack site to be an actual happstack
application.

http://patch-tag.com/r/stepcut/happstackDotCom

At the moment it depends on happstack-extra, which has a bunch of
dependencies. But I could probably just copy the required modules into
happstackDotCom to get around that for now.

Seems like this would be a good chance to actually put the code into
service. The live site right now is just static xhtml that was
generated from some online template. Unfortunately, this makes it hard
to maintain, because when you want to add a link to the side bar you
have to update every page by hand.

I can tweak happstackDotCom to not require happstack-extra this
afternoon...

ok. I updated happstackDotCom so that it does not depend on happstack-
extra anymore.

I have access to update the DNS btw.

Actually,

I am going to see if I can at least host the main happstack.com on a
seereason.com server since I have admin access there, and that would
make things easy....

It sounds like I have tentative offers from lemmih and stepcut, and
can probably return to hosting all myself shortly if that doesn't sort
out, since the patch-tag uptime problems are now much improved.

If/When tentative becomes concrete, please chat me and I'll take
immediate action.

Tphyahoo,

Ok, I remember now that mae didn't complete the final step to give me
DNS access -- and he has not responded to any of my recent emails ...
so I think the only option until he returns from babyland is to
continue hosting on the patch-tag.com server, unless someone else has
DNS access..

I did update happstackDotCom though, so it should be ready to deploy.
I added you as a member to the project:

http://patch-tag.com/repo/stepcut/happstackDotCom/

You can either install it via cabal, or you can build the deb and
install it via dpkg. The choice is yours. The debian packaging
includes an init script so that the server will automatically restart
after reboots.

If you go the debian package route, you may need to edit some options
in happstackdotcom-production-defaults, such as the PORT you want it
to run on.

If you use cabal install, then you will need a script to start the
happstackdotcom-server. Refer to happstackdotcom-production-defaults
for a list of a list of command-line options you will need to pass.

Of course, you can also just restore the plain-old html version from
before. But it would be nice to switch to a more manageable version
sometime..

Doh. Should have refreshed before sending my last email...

There is some final step you need to complete. The original email I
was sent godaddy said:

------------>
You are receiving this message because Matthew Elder wants to add you
to their list of Account Executives. As an Account Executive, you'll
be able to manage products and services such as domains or hosting,
assigned by Matthew Elder.

Before you can be added to this list, however, you must log in at the
following Web page (help is available at this page to walk you through
the steps necessary to get started). Please note that if you do not
have an account with GoDaddy.com, Inc., please follow the instructions
to create a NEW account.

<url redacted>

As soon as you are logged in, you'll be added to the sender's list of
Account Executives. At that point, Matthew Elder will be able to
assign specific resources to your name.

After Matthew Elder assigns your permissions, you can manage any
assigned hosting accounts by logging in to <url redacted>
<---------------

So, I now successfully able to log in as an Account Executive.. but no
resources have been assigned to me yet. I think you were not able to
assign any permissions until after I was added as an account executive..

In the meantime, if you point happstack.com to, 66.199.248.67, I can
get www.happstack.com back up. I am not clear what should be done
about tutorial.happstack.com.

Also, you should decide if you want to give me commit access to
sendfile or not. Though, even if I had commit access I would still
like your opinion on my patches for 6.12 since they do change the API
slightly.

+1 from me, fwiw, since stepcut seems to be doing some fine happstack maintenance lately and the above seems to be a
release blocker.

Just an FYI, I believe hackage will allow Jeremy to upload newer
versions of sendfile without any kind of administrative action from
matt, and point the blessed repo at a whatever cloned patch-tag repo
in the cabal file. So really this is just a social nicety: that the
original creator author of a package should bless contributors of
future versions with his ok. But I don't think this is actually
enforced by hackage at the present time.

I believe this post is 100% accurate.

Yes, and I just sent an email to Jeremy. I appreciate your effort and you have my blessing to update hackage. We should also make sure it works on Windows if possible (I know its not always easy).
