I have two favorite weathers.
1) When it's really really windy.
I like it because it pushes against me, it's fun, especially when it's
warm wind, or the wind on top of a mountain once you've hiked up there.
The fact that I like wind so much tells me that I like freedom (I
know, it's not necessarily an obvious connection, but that's what it
tells me).
2) Just after it rains, best is around April.
The grass is so fresh, it smells very springtime new. Everything looks
greener, fresher, more alive! It's so refreshing.
The fact that I like this weather tells me that I like change and that
I like the outdoors and I like being in nature (this is the kind of
weather in which the air feels saturated with nature... as if you are
actually 'inside' the humidity and softness of the day.)
Specifically, there are days when the sky is very warm and bright, it's
warm and kind of lazy and you feel like sitting outside. It reminds me
of hanging out with friends; you don't have to really talk, but you
just sit outside and enjoy each other's company, idly talking about
whatever until someone says, "ICE CREAM!" and you drive off to the
nearest ice cream stand (or the farthest one, if that's where the good
ice cream is). I would say that this says I like the feeling of
companionship, and it's a warm feeling.
There are days here in New Hampshire where you look up at the sky and
it seems so large and filled with clouds, that everything seems
possible. Particularly I notice when driving just over the border from
Massachusetts, which I sort of associated with taxes and getting my car
towed, and over the hill of the border is a rise where the sky is just
huge. I think this says to me that I like freedom and possibility.
I like snowy days too, especially the first snowfall of the year. Up
until then the world has been waiting for the first snow, and the
anticipation if palpable. Then you look outside and it's snowing, and
slowly the world is repainted in white. I just like snow...I don't know
why. It seems magical. Maybe this says I like magic, and the feeling of
mystery and anticipation.
Sometimes foggy days are interesting, especially the ones when it's
sort of bright but it's like you're actually walking through a cloud.
If you're driving it's kind of scary, but I like seeing the red
taillights of the car in front of me through the fog in the distance.
It's kind of adventurous, reminds me to keep cautious and alert. Not
sure what this says...partly it's that I like the way fog looks (somber
and mysterious) and that through obscuring the world it makes the
familiar seem unfamiliar and different. It's very dramatic...maybe I
just enjoy the drama of foggy days.
