My personal experience with ghosts/spirits etc: is that they exist, or at least something does. I grew up in a house that was haunted here in Edmonton albeit it was not a bad ghost. I have many stories I could tell but I'll list just a couple.
The house that I spent the first 12 years of my life in was a small single story located in the North side of Edmonton, it was fully finished including the basement. As early as I could remember, at night laying in bed, I would here furniture shift(drag) across the basement floor. As the floor in the basement was tiled, it made a distinctive screeching type sound. My parents would also hear this and my dad would go downstair to check that no one had broken into the house. Of course, the basement would be empty and the furniture would be shifted slightly. This happened at least a couple of times a week and would occasionally wake us up. It happened enough that my dad would stand at the top of the stairs and gently ask that "they" quiet down. The interesting thing is, this would actually work and the night would once again become silent.
As for my relatives, it was quite funny that when we first would tell them that our house was haunted they would laugh. My uncle for one was not one to believe in ghosts (my father's side of the family are all farm boys and tend to only believe something that they can either see, touch or taste). One night, my uncle was staying at our place and slept in a bedroom that was located in the basement. It was in the winter and the weather was quite chilly, he went to sleep normally but ended up waking up a couple of hours later freezing. The window in the bedroom was wide open. He got up, closed the window and went back to sleep, only (you guessed it) to wake up sometime later with the window wide open again. Anyway, he went back to sleep once again and was woken up around 4am (he remembers the time) hearing pool balls rolling along the pool table and crashing into one another. He was quite upset about being woken up yet again thinking that myself and my younger brother were awake and playing around. However, when he opened his bedroom door he seen that all of the lights were off, he flicked on the lights and seen several pool balls on their own rolling along the table. No one else was around. He then promptly ran upstairs, turned all the lights on and watched TV until everyone else woke up. He refused to ever again sleep in the basement.
There are many many more instances of activity that happened while we lived there. I've had an RC car move on it's own while the remote was turned off, When I was about 5 years old, I was spanked by the ghost (I know.. I cringe when I tell this one as it sounds very weird but my mom can attest. If you want to hear about this, let me know), I've heard the bathroom being used, TV's would turn on by themselves etc: My parents also had many other experiences (for instance my mom swears that she seen a man in an early 1900's suit and tophat walking through our yard)
We moved out of the house when I was 12 years old in 1987 and since then have had only very limited "strange" encounters, though interesting.
My question is: Although I do believe that something exists, I am also a strong believer in ruling out possible reasons before reaching a conclusion that a paranormal act has occured. I sent an email to your team asking if there was a possibility that my wife and a friend may join in one of your investigations (we will supply our own equipment) but have yet to hear word back. Do you have anything upcoming that we may attend? (I also know of one location approx 1 hour west of Edmonton that I would like to investigate.. A small abandoned church and grave yard that was used from the 1890's to 1950's I believe).
Seeing as we are a non-profit organization - we are busy with our other jobs - so we cannot reply as soon as we would like.
We get about 50 requests a month to join an investigation - and right now with the research we are doing, we really have to stick with the members that we have for now. We will however be looking for video and audio people in the future to join our team.
As far as ruling out all other possibilities (natural and environmental factors) - thats what separates us from the numerous other teams cropping up in this city alone. What also separates us, is we are really dedicated to the research - this isn't a fly by night operation. I myself have researched the paranormal for 15 years, and am currently looking into getting my parapsycology certification.
Anyone can buy the equipment nowadays and proclaim themselves investigators, most are ghost hunters. But it is refreshing to know that there are people out there like you that are looking for other factors as well. Too many times we have seen on other sites, obvious reflections and equipment malfunctions stated as an actual paranormal fact. Whats sad is that it reflects bad on the true community of paranormal investigators that are searching for the truth (I blame tv shows like Most Haunted and Creepy Canada - and numerous others).
WE will be in contact with you maybe to see future possibilities with our team. We have a strict code of conduct that we follow for every investigation, and anyone that joins us, are expected to follow it as well.
Thank you.
