Hi all

I have put my latest Hanslow family tree in Files. I lost quite a bit
of it and have re-installed all the data, I think. If anyone as time
can they check through it for me please. The piece I lost was from
John and Rebecca back to Peter Ansloe so whole tree does not need
checking. If you find mistakes please let me know.

Thanks

Mervyn

Hi Mervyn

I haven't checked your tree - has anyone done that for you?

I went to the library to look for the death of William Anslow the convict - found that in 1841 he married Mary Pratt aged 33. Couldn't find any children born in Tasmania nor the death of William nor the death of Mary. So assuming they moved interstate.
Found the death of William Anslow in Queensland 1869. Father George Anslow and mother Susanna Warner. Found marriage of George Austow ( assume Anslow) to Susanna Warner at Brewood 1 Nov 1813.
Could not find birth of William.
George William born 1818 Tong Shropshire.
So this William who died in Queensland was the son of George and Susan was not necessarily the convict but probably was!

Anyone have any more information of George and Susanna who married in Brewood 1813.

Judith

Dear Judith,William Anslow was bap 26 May 1826 Uttoxeter, Staffs. s/o
George and Sussanna Warner. He was not bap. William Warner Anslow but
later called himself that, I believe.George was a farmer and
apparently moved around the county quite a bit.His children were
bap.in several different parishes.Sussanna Warner was d/o William and
Sussanna Warner, bap 12 Feb 1782 Uttoxeter and George was  the s/o
Moses and Mary Anslow of Brewood bap 16 Sep 1791.I can't find a
marriage for William W Anslow and no criminal records either. Thereis
an unassisted passage of a William Anslow in 1866 to Sydney so maybe
thisis him, but can't seem to find him in our 1851 census!    Best
wishes,   Ruth

Dear Ruth

Thank you for that information. I didn't have the baptism of William son of George and Susanna on my list.
I found him in the nla Australian newspapers site as William Warner Anslow and there are a few items on him.
He can't have been the convict as he was born too late. I thought at first he could have been the William Anslow who came to Tasmania as a convict on the John Barry 1834 who married Mary Pratt who came out on the Platina 1837. They married 1841 and William received his pardon about 1845. Mary was 33 at time of marriage.  Nothing more of them in Tasmania - no children - nor deaths of either. William's convict record shows him as being drunk on occasions and failing to report for muster but      coming from a respected family.
just a few of the items:- nla newspapers report the birth of the son and heir of William Warner Anslow of St Kilda in 1854. I could not find this in the Victorian BDM. Nor his marriage.
William Warner is mentioned in a few items in Victoria over the next few years. If I read it correctly he was a creditor in an insolvency case in 1854. In 1859 he was granted a licence to be an auctioneer.
The next items are in Queensland. I will look more thoroughly over them today but just glanced at them. He appears to have become insolvent about 1865.
His death is in the Queensland BDM 1869.
The 'son and heir' was baptised William George Anslow and married in Sydney 1881. He died in Perth 1896 - a young man - of typhoid fever. The Sydney paper reports his being the son of William Warner Anslow of Staffordshire.
Did you find William in the 1841 census?

I am new to this group and wanted to post information about William Warner Anslow from Staffordshire as he is mentioned several times in this discussion thread. He married Peninnah Long in Berkeley, Gloucestershire in 1848 and they migrated to Victoria as unassisted passengers arriving on 11 November 1850 on the ship "Waterloo".  They had three children born in Melbourne, though one died in an accident in Ballarat in 1859. William Warner Anslow was a stock auctioneer with a particular interest in horses and went into business with various partners.  They moved to the Broadsound district near Rockhampton around 1860, later to Clermont, and finally to Rockhampton where William died in 1869. His widow and surviving child William George Anslow then moved to Sydney where Peninnah Anslow had relatives. She died in 1909 and is buried in Waverley Cemetery.

William George Anslow set himself up as a stock and share broker in Sydney and had a wife and four children but died suddenly on a business visit to Perth in 1896 and is buried there in East Perth Cemetery.
