Subject: Re: Haiti General Meeting

Dear HFI friends,

I won't be able to join you this afternoon, as I am unable to travel to Jacmel this summer ( I will be studying French in Canada during the month of July).   However, I am enjoying hosting Audin while he studies at ELI  at the University of Delaware this spring.  I was a volunteer last year during Week 4, and enjoyed every moment of my time in Jacmel.  I am excited to hear that Bridget Kelly will be leading this year's program.

I would like to suggest streamlining a curriculum for the children's camp and making sure that we collect those materials necessary and useful for said curriculum, rather than relying on random (but well-meaning) donations.  Thanks for the list of suggested donations already sent.   I also think it would be wise to consult our translators and members of the Jacmel community to help HFI formulate this curriculum. Let the people of Jacmel tell us what the children need, would enjoy etc.  I believe that we can make better use of our translators by allowing them to lead in the classroom while HFI volunteers (who by and large speak neither French nor Créole) as assistants.  HFI will have a greater impact if we bring a more nuanced, culturally sensitive program to Jacmel.  We have started well and made great progress.  If we continue to put our heads together and build on our success and make adjustments/improvements each year, HFI can make a lasting difference in the children's lives.

Wishing you all the best today as you being to make plans for this summer's adventure!
