Chicago Monthly Happy Hour Pin-ups

Hey all! That last thread for the Chicago Loop Happy Hours was getting
super long, so I figured I'd start a new one. At the April one, Josiah
left me in charge of picking a time & place for May's pinup, so here
goes nothin':

How does Monday, May 7 at 5:30/6ish sound? If too many people can't do
that one, let's go with May 14 same time. Also, as a Northsider
(Lincoln Square), I rarely venture into the Loop/near-Loop areas, so I
didn't know of any good bars down there, leading me to some extensive
Yelp research. I came up with Rockit Bar & Grill in River North
(State & Illinois). It seemed like a casual atmosphere good for group
chatting, but if anyone has been there and has any objections (too
loud, too expensive, too juicebox-y) please feel free to veto this! I
honestly don't know anything about bars south of Lakeview, so chime in
if you have a better suggestion. Otherwise, let's do Rockit on May 7
(or 14) around 5:30-6 or whenever you get off work!

Both work! Additional suggestions: Sidebar (Wacker/LaSalle) and
Brando's (Jackson/Van Buren) are both pretty good drinking
establishments.

Alright, since it's about 24 hours away, let's just say definitively
that the happy hour 'pinup will be tomorrow (5/7) at Brando's in the

Longtime Hairpin lurker, first time 'pinup attendee. When we arrive,
is there some sort of signal/sign/person we should look for? Or should
we just ask the staff where the other hairpinners are?

It seems like everyone just kind of hesitantly approaches the group of
ladies until someone says "Hairpin?" but for the record, I will be
there tomorrow wearing a red & gray striped T-shirt, and I have
shoulder-length brown, wavy hair. Provided the brown line is on time,
I should be there between 5:30 & 5:45.

Mark your calendars for the next Chicago Pin-up Happy Hour: Mon, June
4 around 5:30/6 to around 8 pm.

If it's ok with you all, let's do the Boiler Room in Logan Square.
It's very easy to get to, right off the California Blue line, and
close to Milwaukee.

The last meetup was super fun! I hope everyone can make it to this
one.

I'm with you there, Laura. Northside alternate Pin-Up for girls who
don't do the Blue Line? I want to... but I just don't.

Could maybe do an alternate night as well so people could do both, or
maybe some people who can't make the Monday thing can do the

I would love to have it on an alternate night - getting up to LS isn't
a problem for me since I live near the Blue Line, but this Monday does
not work for me at all; I just got a job last week and my first real
shift is the same day&time as this month's pinup. The rest of the week
is wide open for me though.

Aw, guys, as someone who doesn't work in the loop and hasn't been able to make the past happy hours, I was psyched to have one near me for once! I understand it's not convenient to everyone's neighborhood, but maybe we can alternate: loop happy hours, neighborhood happy hours, etc?

Super short notice, but liverwortlaura and I were talking about going to see Moonrise Kingdom at Century Cinema tomorrow (or if she's busy, maybe rescheduling next week.) I can't ever do anything on Mondays or in the Loop, so I've been craving some Pin-Up action--does anyone want to join us and then maybe go for a drink? We haven't picked a time yet, but I'm thinking it'll probably be afternoon.

If you do want to go, maybe just email me directly at wallsdonotfall at gmail and we'll coordinate, which would be a little faster than using this group.

My boyfriend and I live together with a friend who has been kind of
shitty about deciding to move out. At first he was going to, but then
he wasn't, AND THEN! only a month before our lease is up/renewed, he
decided that, yes, he is going to move out after all. And now my

At the last Happy Hour everyone seemed interested in going to the Newberry Book Fair Friday the 27th after work & then adjourning to a bar near by. I meant to post this much sooner but have been out of town & busy so I'm sorry for posting this a little last minute. Is everyone/ anyone still interested in this plan? I'm not sure what bar we should go to so does anyone have a suggestion?

I am up for the book fair!  For bars, there is a place I'm kind of obsessed with at the corner of Clark and Superior - a few blocks' walk.  It is called 25 Degrees and has alcoholic milkshakes (and many other cocktails).  Also decent food.
