Hi Clevelanders! I decided to gather the major info concerning our possible June meet-up in one thread. So, if we do want to go to the roller derby, the last match date is June 9 (Saturday). Tickets can be bought here:  http://www.burningriverrollergirls.com/index.php/buy-tickets/home-bouts

The doors open at 5, first bout is at 6. If we would like to meet beforehand for grub, there are plenty of restaurants in the area...people in the other thread mentioned Bricco, Star, and Rascal House.

Also, if Christina has arrived, welcome! If not yet, good luck moving!

Haaaa, totally misread The Hellbombers as The Hellboners. Gonna be a
fun night! Has anyone bought a ticket yet, do we need to aim for
specific seat numbers?

p.s. If the night doesn't end with our own group trying to bruise each
other, I'll be going to the Museum of Natural History's Summer event
with a group of ladies and it's definitely a 'the more, the merrier'
thing. It's on Friday, June 22. The theme this year is "Mad Men" (last
year's theme was "Cuban food, fight off your friends and eat all the
empanadas"): http://www.cmnh.org/site/ClassesandPrograms/SpecialEvents/MadSummer.aspx

I just joined the group - can I get in on this, too? :)

Oh yes definitely, Mary!

I have not got tickets yet, not sure how the seating thing works.

Also. That museum event sounds AWESOME. I know someone who works there, I will have to see if she's going too. I definitely want a reason to dress up in 50s drag.

Awesome! I have plans on the 9th, but I would definitely like to meet
you ladies at the next meet-up.

Count me in for roller derby! It appears seating is 'first come,
first serve', though you must be 18 and over to sit on the floor along
the tracks. For meeting before, I vote for Rascal House as I've never
been and I would imagine it's cheaper than Bricco and Star. Should we
shoot for 3:30 or is that too early?

I would love to attend the Museum of Natural History's Mad Summer but
since it's on a Friday, I'm not sure I would make it in good time.

Got my ticket! Rascal House sounds good to me, and--being a congenitally early kind of person--any time is good. :B

Just out of curiosity, is there a Facebook group for the Cleveland
group? If not, there should be. :)

Almost Roller Derby time! Who all do we need to look for at Rascal
House? Just me, Diana and Danielle? ...I should change my name to
something starting with D.

Diana did bring up Facebook on the other thread, but no one really
seemed to have a strong opinion on having a page.

Well we can't call you 'Date'. Daphne? Dorothy? Demetria?

It seems 3:30 at the Rascal House works, so now how do we find each
other?

I'm in favor of Dolores or Daria.

I'm also in favor of wearing GIANT HAIRPINS. Or other notable hair things? Or maybe making a sign. o.O

Everyone wears a fascinator!

...Barring that, I'm 5'2", shoulder-length brown hair, star tattoos on
the back of my lower left leg.

Aaaand it only just dawned on me that emailing from the Kate Kane
account means there's not even half of a photo of me attached to this
name, so p.s. I'm white. That might help when you're looking for
people with fascinators/signs.

Alas, the only fascinators I have are otherwise known as 'baseball
caps.' I do have a green flower clip I can stick in my hair (hair is
rather short, strawberry blonde-ish.) I'm white, 5' 7", shaped like a
pear or Weeble Wobble, whichever you prefer.

I am white and tall and have very short brown hair which may or may not be sporting a large flower headband (I always have sartorial crises prior to Pin-Ups).

Also I MAY be bringing Christina (am about to offer her a ride), so I could have a plus one!

So I totally forgot about the Mad Men shindig at the museum tomorrow night, but I hope Kate and anyone else going has fun! The roller derby was great (although we missed Danielle). Would you all like to plan something for July?

I'm excited for the Mad Summer shindig - and not just because it's supposed to be only (haha) 80° tomorrow.

I'd be in for a July Pin-Up - I have some random suggestions:
 Lakeview Cemetery - open 7:30am - 7:30pm daily + James A. Garfield Monument 9am – 4pm. Free.
 Cleveland Metroparks Zoo - open 10am - 5pm daily. $12.25 admission
Tremont Art Hop - happens second Friday of every month. Free to wander around, regular prices in bars/restaurants.

I would be down for the zoo, just because I've never been there before!  The art hop also sounds fun.  I love Tremont.

I am really sorry I missed the roller derby!  I was so looking forward to meeting you all.  July!  I will make it to whatever we decide to do in July.  Lakeview Cemetary is very cool, the zoo is very cool.  Here are some other events/goings-on to consider:

- The Western Reserve Historical Society has an exhibit on 150 years of wedding fashions in Cleveland, could be interesting.
- The Cleveland Museum of Art has the 'Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties' starting on July 1st.
- We could always take in an Indians game (there have to be some sort of cheap tickets.)
- Mentor Highlands beach or Huntington Beach
- Down here in Kent, you can rent a kayak or a canoe and paddle down the Cuyahoga (without having to look out for barges!)  I'm sure there are other places up closer to you all in Cleveland that rent them as well.

So many options!

As an addendum, tickets to the Western Reserve Historical Society are $8.50.  The Museum of Art is free, but tickets to the "Youth and Beauty" exhibit appear to be $17.00.

Yay more pinups! I absolutely love the art museum, and the exhibition sounds great! Also, I am down for the zoo any day.

I am also intrigued by the Cinema at the Square series-- I can't find a link to the whole thing, but tickets are through Playhouse Square and shows seem to be on weekends and there is a WEST SIDE STORY SINGALONG one but also things like The Muppet Movie and Mary Poppins and Rear Window-- though I think it begins in August? Tickets are $5. BOOM. Also, I think Cleveland Cinema is showing Jurassic Park right now (yessssssss) but they also seem to have fun movies.

And you know what you can sneak into movies? CHAMP CANS. (For the uninitiated: http://www.franciscoppolawinery.com/wine/sofia/mini

These all sound like awesome ideas! I'd love to do the art walk (been meaning to since it stopped snowing), the zoo, and definitely one of the movies. I love seeing classic movies on the big screen.

So, the art walk is next Friday, but there's also something going on next Sunday called Taste of Tremont--food vendors and beer. Anyone interested in going to that?

I'd be up for the Taste of Tremont.

Hi all,

I just learned of a Speakeasy Happy Hour at the Art Museum. Here's the description:

Speakeasy Happy Hour

Friday, July 20, 2012 5:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

Join us to celebrate Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties at this speakeasy happy hour event. Check out the exhibition, then enjoy a cocktail as you try your hand at live life-drawing from Dr. Sketchy Cleveland, with models and poses inspired by the exhibition. Music by Adam Ritenauer. Twenties dress-up optional but encouraged! Drinks and food will be available for purchase throughout the night.

Event FREE for museum members; $15 non-members. Advance reservations highly suggested. Please call the box office at 216-421-7350 to reserve.

Join Column & Stripe and enjoy the perks of the C&S member lounge, with private bar, snacks, and the opportunity to meet the curator and mingle with fellow C&S members.

If anyone is interested, I'd never say no to a chance to dress up.
