Are pen pals still a thing? Do people like getting snail mail? (I LOVE
IT)

If anyone else is interested in potentially getting a HairpinPal and
starting some sort of epistolary correspondance, feel free to reply to
this thread

Sure, I'd be up for that! I can't guarantee amazingly prompt replies
or super-neat handwriting, but I can definitely send letters in
envelopes with stamps on them.

I'm in! I like to send people collages if anyone is interested in THAT
too.

I'm in! I like this idea. Are postcards acceptable?

I love snail mail, too! I'd be up for this.

I would be in, and I believe postcards are acceptable. I had a friend in Iraq, and sent her a postcard every week. Now that she is back, I've thought about sending them to her house, just because it was fun.

I would so be in! If someone sends their address, I'll get started
right away

ok so - should we just put our addresses out there? or try to pair up? (i fear beaing pin-pals with a person in my city) thoughts ladies? I would send all of you mail over time, so ...?

YES totally! Especially since my attempt at a pinup in this area
(Western New York) seems to be a bust...

Yes I would be in! But I think now someone has to decide how to
organize this fandango? Ideas?

I'm in!! I think this sounds like the funnest idea ever, but I agree
we need a coordinator... someone with an excel sheet who'll match
hairpinees, and promise to keep addresses confidential?

Hey,

I'm glad so many people are into this! If people would be comfortable
with it, I'm okay to match people up.

For people's comfort re: addresses and security I thought that either

a) people can email me with the city they live in, and I can match
people up so they aren't writing letters to someone in the same city
as then. I'll then email both parties letting them know they are
matched up, and they can exchange addresses only with each other. This
has the advantage of security.

b) People can email me with their addresses and I can match people up
the same way, only people will only find out who their penpal is when
they get a letter/postcard/collage/whatever in the mail. This has the
advantage of surprise!

Whatever people are comfortable with works for me.

For added match compatibility, I suppose you can email me top 3 likes
and dislikes, but I don't think that is a necessity.

Thoughts?

I'm up for this! I entirely doubt there are other Pin Pals in my town
(except the ones who were pals already that I made read the site)

Yes! I love postcards and letters!
I think that sounds like a good way to do it- I like the surprise
thing, too.
Maybe we could also sort of rotate- it might be fun to get post cards
from a bunch of different places.

Wait, Sarah In Japan, are you in Japan? If so, you're not the only
Hairpin proselytizer here.

Oh, um, can I be in on this, too? One of my New Year's Resolutions was
to keep the USPS in business, and this seems like a great way to A.)
Meet fun friends! and B.) Keep a resolution that is nearly impossible
to truly keep.

Did everyone decide on the deets? I'm so excited!

Magoo, thanks so much for offering to organize this fun adventure!

I like option b of your proposed plan, and am totally comfortable
emailing you my address.

Others? Thoughts?

YES please. I love getting mail that isn't bills or catalogs for the
lady who lived in this apartment before me.

Okay!

so let's go with option B! if you have reservations, contact me
privately and we can probably set something up securely.

my email is farra...@gmail.com, so please send your addresses
there, and I'll try and coordinate partners by the end of this week.

There have also been ideas of a round robin letter, which I think
sounds super intriguing, so I might try and figure that out as well.

ugh, it's kind of a pain in the ass, BUUUUUT, i figured it out.

1. click "View profile" next to her name
2. click on the ellipsis in her e-mail address
3. you should be taken to a page where you have to "unlock" her e-mail
address via captcha.
4. type in the captcha thingie, et VOILA! you should get the un-
abbreviated e-mail.

I like this idea! I'm not a regular commenter because of the weird
hours I keep, I'm more of a lurker, but this sounds like lots-o-fun!
