Hey, anyone else have the issue when adding teachers to a class that you have to type in their user name and NOT their e-mail address?  I'm adding some teachers to classes and it won't find their e-mail address but will find their user name.  Plus, our teacher user names are all over the place.  I'm not sure if that is because we at first in our district made them ourselves or what, but it's a little annoying, but not hard to work around.  Just wondering if anyone else is having that experience.

Hi Dan, I've had the same thing here since we started Haiku.

Hi Dan & Andrew (and anyone else having this issue),

I'm curious to know more details about this. It does sound frustrating, especially since the functionality should be that both username or email will work to add the teacher. I tested adding co-teachers using their email addresses to both a manual and an imported class on one of our test domains (both as a teacher and as a domain admin) and it worked without a problem. I'm curious to know what I'm missing. Would one of you be willing to take a screencast of this so I can see exactly what you are seeing? If it is a bug, I'd love to get it fixed quickly.

Best,
Elizabeth

I haven’t tried it in a couple of months, since I just use the account name to add now.  I tried it in Firefox 10 and Chrome 16.0.912 on OS 10.7, but it worked fine this time.

Here’s a youtube vid of the process I went through:  http://youtu.be/TApIEZ5mfQQ

Using the above process used to only let me add by username, not address. (Error was something like Teacher not found)

Hi Dan & Andrew,

It looks to me like adding teachers via both username and email is working at this point in time. When you add a teacher, either by email or username, there is a message that pops up that says, "Are you sure you want to add [Name of User] as a teacher in this class?" If you click okay, it will add the user as a teacher to the class.

The username/email does need to be an exact match, so if you happen to spell anything wrong, you will receive a message that says that the user does not exist.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, or if this behavior I have described does not match what you experience.

Best,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

I managed to get it to happen on my Win7 machine with a new teacher.

Just created this teacher’s account, added him to one course by username (worked), then added him to another course by email address (didn’t work).  Screenshot is attached.

I used the same procedure show in the previous screencast.

Hi Andrew,

This is a little odd. I can't get the email search to fail for me anywhere else. There's one last thing I can think of that might be causing this issue. Because the email/username search is an exact match search, if there are any typos, even if the typo is an extra space at the end of the address, the search will fail.

I don't see any typos in the particular email address in your screenshot. Is it at all possible that there was an extra space at the end of the email address when you entered it?

Best,
Elizabeth

It’s taken me forever and a day to get back to this, but it turns out new teachers must confirm their email before the admin can add them to courses via email address.  Makes sense to me!
