I'm suprised that the hot end stabilises at this temperature running
directly off the power supply. I would have expected much higher. Are
you sure about this temperature? If you used an IR thermometer bear in
mind that they take a temperature over a fairly large area and it can
be difficult to measure a relatively small source like the hot end and
it may be giving a misleading low reading. That might also explain why
the temperature control is not working; The temperature may have gone
high enough to damage the thermistor.
