So I've been looking in to motorbike audio lately. Its a bit of a minefield to be honest.
The conclusion I've come to is that the ideal system would be some sort of managing hub to mix in devices, that stays wired into bike electrics. Pair this with a decent FRS/GMRS radio, my phone for music and my gps. As for getting sound into the helmet, a wireless module is the preference, and it seems the headphones/mic combos can be bought by themselves fairly inexpensively.
Noone makes anything like this as far as I can tell. The closest thing I've found is this: http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=JBLU-BHDG08
$600 is a lot of cash just for the hub part. Like, way too much, I have no idea how they manage to justify that price.
Has anyone else looked into this stuff? I'm not super familiar with bluetooth, is this sort of thing achievable with amateur electronics? I assume I'll probably go bought for the helmet mount, but for the hub unit? I'm more interested in results than the tinkering at this stage, so if you know of a product I'm all ears.
Lastly, I'm a radio newb. Does anyone have some good radio resources for me to learn the basic types, what they do etc? FRS/GMRS/CB/VHS/UHF all means rather little to me, none of my googling has been particularly fruitful. The ideal product for this usage would cover as many bands as possible with as much range as possible I'd say. Probably also impossible, heh :)
