An undocumented serial protocol that a couple of space members have had
difficulty figuring out.
Typically these are dead though, they overheat and the banks of resistors
blow.
And taking the matrix off the board is rediculously troublesome, I've tried
several times to no avail. That's not to say that someone won't be able to
recover them :)

They can be controlled simply by plugging an old style (DIN?) keyboard into
in and typing what you want to say.
The instructions that you well get from Reverse Garbage are likely to be
the instructions for communication via the keyboard.
How ever I do know that Golden Casket used these displays and you might get
some information contacting Bytecraft who are the current tech maintenance
workers for GC (or Tatts Lotto I don't really care).

I did get a page of instructions once, and tried to write something
that handled the protocol, but never got it working.
I also scrounged up a keyboard of the right sort, and that didn't work either.
Finding that sheet now would be nigh on impossible I would think.
