I was at the hackerspace last Tuesday, and Lemming mentioned briefly to you all that I was planning to contribute with my work as a street artist to your kick ass new location. I have attached a couple of .jpg images, where you can see my proposal. In 01_fairy1_hackerspace.jpg the back of a building takes my interpretation of two variegated fairywrens, local Queensland birds colorfully welcoming everybody. In 02_drip_proposal.jpg the whole building gets a black background, with drips and colorful triangles, with your logo on top of the whole thing. This image is just showing the outer façade, facing all the people that will go to the soon-to-come market. The idea with this building is to paint it all black, and go around it with triangles and drips, and maybe a couple of stencils like the fairywrens. I still have another piece that I have to send you all, which completes my initial proposal for the hackerspace. I will do that as soon as I can, but I wanted to hear what you all think about what I have so far.
On the other hand, since you are going to have so many white walls at your new site, I'd like to send you more proposals in the future. I'd really like to show in your walls how lively the hackerspace is inside them.
If you want to see a few things I've done in the past, the following links will give you an idea of what I do, and how things will look when I'm done with your walls:
In fariry1 the bird on the right will be in the middle of the door that we
are going to cut in so the markets have access to the toilets. I also think
the big logo should be dynamic and light up somehow.

It will utamatly come down to how much "they" are willing to spend on it.
It is possible that the fence will be routed down to the door and fixed up.
The other thing we learnt at the meeting is no works would begin until next
year.

Looking good!
I do like the farywrens, but it would be ashame if the right one was
covered by a fence later down the track..
I dont think every HSBNE sign needs to be flashing does it? There is talk
of one near the front of the building presently but shall we move in first?
We have "presently" approval for a neutral colour from ULDA.
That said we can always ask for another approval assuming we have concept
designs (like the ones you have presented us with).

@Jimmy: For me, it doesn't matter if the bird goes over a door, unless there's a need for the door to be have a single flat colour. On the other hand, I'm just painting the logo, all other flashing work is not in my hands. : )
@Hovo: In true nature, a street piece will disappear at some point, so I don't mind the fairywren to be covered by a fence, it might give it additional value from my perspective, it'll be hidden, known only to insiders.

The croc and animal theme seems nice enough, but ( and this is just my
option) it's not very inspiring. I don't look at either of them and go
"wow". Also, I hate pink. I especially hate pink in large quantities on
the outside of hackerspaces. Something a bit less barbie(tm) and a
bit more.... I don't know... steampunk, or even retro, or geek, or hackish
in at least some form.
Yes, I know, I'm verging on bikesheding...but is a huge pink wall how we
want to advertise the hackerspace? These wall/s are giant adverts, so they
need to be at least relevant. :-) http://bikeshed.com/
Buzz.

All good. It's just a cholor scheme, and the purpose is to give you all an idea of what the size and how it could look in general. I can always get rid of any shades of magenta, but I'd like to keep the neon look of it all. I mean along, the lines of the vibrant green and sharp blue of the fairywrens. I also have to say that I'm not looking for the wow factor, that's not the reason I do things for. I'd say street art is a city hack, and that's why I'd like to paint your space, but of course, it all comes down to what you want to have.

I think I'm in agreeance with buzz on this, mainly on the animal theme. I don't really mind what colours are used, but I'm really failing to see how animals are relevant to a hackerspace and what we do.
Thats not to say I dislike the work, as art I think they're great ideas and pieces, but I don't think they really fit in with what we are about.
