When people've received their rpi from RS, were they delivered by couriers
please from a warehouse in Brisbane? I got a missed delivery and I've
rescheduled it for Monday. Could it finally be here?

Mine came DHL from the UK, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Archerfield
RS warehouse was shipping them now.

Guess you're not getting the 512mb version then.
It's strange people are still complaining of delays when I looked at the element14 website the other day it said they had hundreds in stock.

I'd say that's because like everyone else who's gotten tired of RS's
backlog they ordered from Farnell/e14.

Heck, I know the EDGE got a delivery of 50 of them from e14 last wek.

My experience was they sell out rather fast. So buy when they
have them in stock at element14.

more.

btw, when it arrives, it arrives in brick-state.

You can plug it to the tv, but to use it in the computer-room
something like this is needed:

in addition to a SDHC card. In addition to a writer, if you don't have one.

The one thing I had trouble with was a USB cable to power the Pi.  The
cheap ones I already had used wires that were too thin so they couldn't
deliver enough current, causing a voltage drop.  Once I plugged a USB
keyboard in, the voltage dropped enough that the whole USB bus would
reset every few seconds, making the network drop out too (since it's a
USB to Ethernet chip.)

I tried a few different cables but in the end the only way I have been
able to power it reliably was by using a bench PSU and putting 5V in
through the power pins on the GPIO connector (a supported method.)  This
gets me 5V exactly coming out of the Pi's USB ports, which is much
better than the barely above 4V that I was getting previously.

Cheers,
Adam.

Yeah, they still charge for posting.

I think it was around $12 postage, so it ended up being around $50 for one.

Minimum purchase for free shipping is $45.

Shipping is $12.95 ex GST.

So either:
Buy some bits with the order to get it over $45.
Find someone else who wants one, and buy two!

tj, you also need a *micro* usb cable for power - or as Adam says below,
drive it directly (carefully).

the USB ports each have 140mA fuses - they turn off if you exceed it. So if
you want to run any useful USB devices, get a decent powered hub (2A). You
can also run the Pi from one of the hub's ports, while running the hub from
the Pi... *mind blown*

Also you can directly plug a standard servo connector onto the GPIO
header (starting from the pin at the very corner of the board going
towards the usb ports it's 5v, 5v, GND), so powering from a BEC is
trivial.

Well I missed the first order but got in on the 2nd, and it's on that.

It would have to support 1.7 amps to run both ports at full current and the Pi as well.
