What would happen if you got a whole bunch of cameras and rigged them
together - like a 360 degree panorama?
The distortion would play hell with the image but it would be
interesting to see if the brain could adapt after an extended period.
Perhaps have the mounted on a headboard, send the feeds through a mini-
pc and out to the goggles?
Ever played quake 3 with the FOV set to 360 degrees? It makes what's directly in front of you really small, so it's hard to shoot, and it hurts your eyes - but you have total visibility!
There have been experiments done where the vision was flipped upside down. After about 2 weeks they adjusted and it was like normal! Then when normal vision was restored, it looked flipped to them.

Tried the Sony HMT-Z1, was pretty good as far as headsets go, hdmi,
720p stereo, power draw was 12w I think, they are so close to being
awesome its irritating that they haven't gone that extra 10%. Played a
ps3 game in 3d and saw a couple of 3d movie trailers, I think you
would have to tweak them for comfort as they seem a bit lacking there.
They wanted 899$ in the AU sony store though, I'm waiting to see what
they come down to once the stock levels have reached an equilibrium or
once wow and jb get hold of them.
