My local Coles (Stepney) has these for $4 -normally $10

presumably other coles will have them too

Inside is an electric motor and gears that push the spraycan nozzle
a PIR, circuit board (all components are surface mount and might be
difficult to repurpose)
3 aa batteries , a led and 2 slide switches

The motor/gearbox drives forward to push down then reverses
it looks quite strongly built.

The spray can is quite big unlike the different airwick model here :

If this is the same unit shown here on one of my fave websites it's

These are NOT on the shelf at Coles Central Market (or in The Reject Shop).

I found them in the city store, but they still want $10 for them.

Burnside coles has them.

I should have clarified that they are not on the shelf where
airfreshners are normally kept but at the
end of an isle - the $4 ones have a red sticker saying "Free diffuser"
-the identical
$10 ones have no sticker

Burnside coles also have air wick odor detect for $4

http://automaticgiant.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/airwick-odor-detect-teardown.html

which contains a www.appliedsensor.com volatile organic compound
(VOC) sensor.

Nothing like re-cycling a bad idea:

"""
The Thames and many of its urban tributaries were overflowing with
sewage; the warm weather encouraged bacteria to thrive and the
resulting smell was so overwhelming that it affected the work of the
House of Commons (countermeasures included draping curtains soaked in
chloride of lime, while members considered relocating upstream to
Hampton Court) and the law courts (plans were made to evacuate to
Oxford and St Albans).
"""

Much easier to mask a problem than to solve it....

Norwood coles has them - they are in the normal isle marked as $10
but when scanned at the checkout are $4 - look for the ones with
a red sticker and the discount paper bar code stuck over the original
bar code.

The Reject Shop are advertising this "compact" model for $6, which
look like the ones in these links. I have one of the Coles ones, but
I haven't taken it apart. I think the way they activate the spray
differs.

Hmm, interesting.  How powerful is the motor?

I've been planning on making Audrey (the little shop of horrors plant) for some time, and the air-wick appears to ha

Here's what they look like inside:

http://yfrog.com/7bimg2548mmj

The motor was quite powerful; I was unable to stop the red actuator
from moving using my thumb. I guess it would need to be fairly
powerful to operate an aerosol can.

=D. Good point.  Thanks Damien.  This would be a good project I think.

Someone at work says these compact models have a valve in it instead
of a motor, possibly driven by a solenoid.
