Greetings,

As a follow on from MakerFaire, any one interested in being a part of this event? Similar format.. the Jacob's ladder would be cool to have there.

Sorry about the tight timeline.. Brian only mentioned this to me at the MakerFaire.

Cheers,
Paul

Subject: Science event at Elizabeth..

Hi Brian,

Could you please send me/link the details for the event in Elizabeth.

I'll see who is interested in participating in the event.

You mentioned that you would like to see more of the Hackerspace type of projects there.. I need to talk to them about this.

Cheers,
Paul

I am interested in going to SciWorld either helping Hackerspace or just
solo having a gander.

So if hackerspace going to be there, whats the plan for the day?

it's awesome to have a central resource (such as pix) to keep coming back to but i'm guessing that if you were to frame the question "whats the plan for the day" instead with:
"i'm available and would love to do x/y/z what do people think?"
that'd help the scenario evolve much more fruitfully.

what do YOU want from the day and what do you think others might get from that?
think of yourself as a mediatory between 'people who get HA' and 'people who have no idea what HA is'
and then look at mini maker fair and think how did/would that have gone down in that context.  and why,

*crawls back under rock made of bus*

basically in the interests of self preservation i'm not going to commit us to doing anything unless at least a few people say they are keen. but since the deadline for being involved has passed, i'm guessing we aren't involved. they are welcome to talk to us with a more sensible timeframe next time.

I agree with Pix, despite how worthy an event is (which this one is), only 24 hours to respond is unreasonable for anyone, let alone to expect Pix to give a "yes" on behalf of Hackerspace Adelaide Incorporated to be included in advertising material, without first consulting members and even then, he needs a number of members to actually commit to volunteering their time on the day and actually have stuff to show off, talk about and even be the support/contact person if he can't attend.

Many groups fail in their first few years because a handful of people end up doing all the heavy lifting, running the risk of burning out the champions, if as founding members we want to see a group last we need to support these champions to prevent them from burning out.   Consequently I strongly agree with Fee's sentiments it is very difficult to expect any individual in a group of volunteers regardless of enthusiasm and ability to be the ideas planning action hero, as they are individuals with lives and jobs outside of the group.

So in other words anyone who has an idea and willing to volunteer their time to do it, is wonderful! regardless of what it is.

As for me I'm always very happy to help by throwing in a few dollars and/or loaning equipment.  Also attending an event and talking about my or other people's stuff, but as I have a young family, we often plan things around the kids in advance particularly on weekends. Consequently a few weeks prior notice is really what I need for a "yes I will do this and bring this" answer.

Please let me clarify.. Brian is keen to have Hackarspace represented at the event.

The deadline was for appearing on the brochure, not participating.
(Special thank you to Tobias for decoding the attachment.)

If people are still interested in participating, might I suggest that a decision is made by interested parties
that I can communicate with him (Yes/No) in a appropriate time frame (say early next week, or sooner).

I am happy to do this, but can't promise help on the day due to family commitments.

Cheers,
Paul

Fab Lab Adelaide will be at Elizabeth to show off 3D printing.

Feel free to contact kimika or myself if you would like any assistance.

If you do agree to go to this fair, maybe we should see if we can have our stalls next to each other?

Cameron

Thanks for clarifying Paul. Being on the poster isn't very important, so missing out on that is no biggie.

I'll leave the it open for people to express interest. Jon and I had a small display at a previous one and it was a good day. If we are teaming up with FabLab and the Amateur Radio club, we could get away with just two people (and whatever stuff they bring), but more would be better.

Hello Paul,

my K9 Prop and Rover display are available for the day.

I have church in the morning (10am) but could either come earlier and
setup or arrange something the day before?
I could also bring other Hacker Hardware in depending on what is agreed
upon.

Regards Peter

Apparently we are on the poster after all, so I guess we are doing it.. If you are available (and preferably) keen to attend and talk to people, please let us know on this list and we can start organising.

It's normally quite kid-heavy... *wonders if he should finally get his no-solder noise making workshop happening*

Anyone...? Anyone..? Fry...? Fry...?

So Peter can drive stuff up there but he can't be there in the morning.

We need more people to help man our stand to avoid unleashing a very grumpy Pix on a room full of kids.

Think of the children!

I can do the whole day. If we're next to Fab Lab I can do it on my own
if necessary, though it'd be great to have someone else to hang with.
I don't have any project that are displayable though. There'll be the
slide show and the Pi and Pete's TV again. I'll try and get a
derivative of my claw working (maybe an owl with distance sensors for
eyes and wings that move????), or just the original if not. More
moving things would be awesome. Maybe I could take the clip together
circuit for kids to use on the day? Anyone else got suggestions?

I'll be doing the whole day too so you won't be on your own Tamsyn.

The clip circuits is a good idea. Maybe the Arduino starters kit too.

It's normally considerably less intense than Science Alive, so there is more time to fiddle with things.

I'll call Brian tomorrow and work out if we need tables (pretty sure we won't).

Peter, were you imagining driving in to Hackerspace to pick stuff up on Sunday morning and then drive back out?

It would make it quite an early day. Other option is to pick stuff up on Saturday and leave it in your car?

Or, I can probably bring stuff home on Saturday in my hiking bag that is still in the space ;)

Hello Pix,

I was planning on going straight to Elizabeth from home Sat. Morning.
I could pick you and any equipment you have with you up on the way past.
By the time I load the car it would make a very early morning if I have to swing by the city, so I would prefer not to.

I need to know when people will be at Elizabeth for setup.

Regards Peter

Sorry guys, now worries.  I made a (wrong) assumption.  Train will be great.  What time do we need to get there?

I can't make it to the event but I can provide some tables if required. I'm in Salisbury and could drop them off in Elizabeth

I just called Brian, tables are provided. I'll try and bring the kits home with me on Saturday and head from here to the site on Sunday with Peter.

If anyone wants to offer me a lift home on Saturday, it could make things easier.
