Hey there hackers,
Thought I'd flag a few developments here at Majoran Distillery that might be of interest. We're mostly thinking about the members here in the space so far, but we also have potential to involve broader networks.
We're exploring in parallel developing two separate programs, to tap into the collective resources in the community and get some good stuff done.
Firstly, a social outreach program. A method for for-good ideas (e.g. work for NFPs or other projects) to be propositioned to the community that people can jump on board to work through collaboratively. We have started two prototypes - one is Cold Code, an all-night hackathon to raise money and awareness for homelessness (led by Sam, one of our members), and the other is an app idea we are developing for Brad Chillcot / Welcome to Australia.
The second is an innovation think tank (and optional 'projects agency'). Where we get a bunch of members to host group think-tank sessions of 2-3 hours to help clients think outside the box on their problems. Probably similar in principle to what Hackerspace has considered. We're using Brad Chilcott's app project as our first prototype for the think-tank model, and will be trialling it with a couple of other pro-bono projects before seeing if we can operate a commercial model.
Let me know if you'd like to be kept in the loop, or if you generally think we should be involving a broader network in these programs.
