Woolworths Mitcham are selling these for $7.  (The soap refill is $6.!)  Normal price seems to be $20.
Presumably they are going out cheap because they are logo'd with film characters now past their use-by.
But the logo'd plastic wraparound on the dispenser just comes off.
Run off a few AA batteries, supplied.

They use a break-the-infrared-beam method of detecting a hand to squeeze a squirt of soap into.
Work OK.

I bought a few to scatter around the house.  I'm hoping the soap bottles will be refillable, even if I have to drill holes in them and put bungs in.

Haven't pulled one apart to check out the motor & electronics.  Haven't checked idle current drain.

How very interesting.  I think one of these should supply all the electronics I need for my Audrey 2 build.  I'll keep it in mind - thanks!

Any idea how much the IR sensors would be to buy by themselves ? I was thinking it might be cool to hack one into my crappy old clock radio so the backlight can be dimmed and then brightened when you wave a hand over it.
