spam blocker on Contact form

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Habari has finally arrived. After months of reassuring inactivity and
no contact whatsoever, I am now getting inundated with 10 emails daily
originating from my blog contact form.

Unfortunately, a slim majority are enquiring about Habari and my
wonderful site.

The majority are urging me to indulge in, err, various activities
involving donkeys.

I am using the Jambo plugin. Is there an alternative that at least
attempts to filter spam (> 1 link for example).

I don't believe there is a spam filtering alternative (I'm sure
someone will pipe up if I'm wrong). I suggest opening a ticket.
Someone clever may be able to integrate it with one of the existing
spam plugins.

I've lately started to run into the same situation. Ah. The price of
success. :)

I've been looking at a way to integrate Jambo with Habari's
spamchecker plugin, but haven't done so, yet. I'd hate to have to
duplicate spamchecker's code in Jambo. Spamchecker, defensio, and
mollum all use the same hook to check for spam, so we may be able to
capitalize on this.

looking forward to see a solution too. I'm having the same problem aswell. I thought as I mentioned in the previous mail, if there is a customizable security question, then it may help:

For example: What's the real name of the guy writing this blog?

A spam robot won't ever answer it, readers will.

But a built in spamchecker would solve the spam problem more elegantly. :-)

I've checked in a first cut at hooking spamchecking plugins through
jambo. It's been tested with spamchecker, and should work with both
defensio and mollum. If it's broken or can done better, don't hesitate
to say so, (or fix it :) ).

I have actually fantasized that I might write a plugin which actually
stores contacts as "comments" – thus giving you access to the same
moderation tools as used for regular comments.

I'll look into doing this, probably as an update to my AlienContact
plugin.

Rick, that looks like a good job. The only potential problem I could
see is spamchecker plugins checking for additional info values which
wouldn't be set in your situation. I can't see any reason this would
happen, so your solution seems to be completely sufficient.

That's strange. That's what I'm going to do. A contact page where I
invite people to leave comments to contact me.

Disqus can then take care of the spam problem.

Only minor problem is that until I delete the comment, a private
communication may be exposed to the world.

Jambo uses _very_ basic techniques that filter out most the "stoopid"
spam bots out there, and until lately I have not gotten much spam get
through (about 5-6 per month). Today my inbox was filled with 25 spams
:(. So I'll be working on a system for Jambo to allow for easier
filtering of the email, and adding some more basic techniques.

I would caution about using Defensio until you verify, in their user
license agreement thing, that they allow you to send contact
form/generic data. I know Mollom does, and I'm working on a system to
leverage the mollom plugin to allow the generic filtering on any data
(which is why mollom rocks). But more basic filtering, like that done
in the spamchecker plugin, would be great to see.

Also, anyone willing to make Jambo use formui for it's form
generation/processing, would be awesome. Then we could include
multiple classes (and allow for addition of plugins) that would filter
Jambo's form stuff, and the user could select/activate any of the spam
filter classes/plugins they want active, like captcha, honey pot,
etc...

After further consideration, I had second, third and fourth thoughts.

I have now reverted to using Jambo with Rick C's additional hooks into
Spamchecker.

So far, I haven't had any spam (3 days) and one message thought to be
from a human.
