A lot of us are busy, and loose time to work on Habari to any great
deal, usually only when we need to do something with a site. If
dozens of people are all working on their sites, then there's a good
possibility that they will all have ideas/code for improving core,
plugins, and possibly even donate their old design to the -extras
repo, or build off of and improve one already there. It may also get
some of us back into the swing of working on the project a little more
regularly.
Also, if we have a specific day in mind, it could help generate some
buzz for the project in general, if we're all blogging/tweeting etc
about it, which then might bring a few more into the fold.
Ultimately though, I think it would just be a fun community oriented
event.
I don't have any specific date in mind, but mid March should give
everyone enough time, without dragging it so far off into the future
that it looses momentum. If anyone else thinks it's a worthy idea,
I'll gladly spearhead writing a post for hp.o and trying to keep the
ball moving.
This doesn't have to be a complete redesign of your site ,which
certainly can be daunting, and some may like the basic feel of their
site and not want to do a complete overhaul. Which is why I have a
handy link to a A List Apart article by Cameron Moll about realigning
vs redesigning :-D

Anyway, happy New Years to all, hope to hear some feedback on the idea
and look forward to seeing some great things from Habari in 2010.

This is what I do all the time and is what essentially motivates me to
log bugs (with patches where possible).
Sometime in the early part of the year - March is as good as any time
- is probably a good time to do this. That way we can capture some of
people's left over New Year motivation, but also enhance all the
plugins etc in time for the next Habari release.

This is a great idea.

Personally, I'd blog in advance about what I was committing to try to do on the
day.

March sounds good to me.
