I have a custom loginform.php such that when I logged in I have a link
to comment moderation page if there are comments awaiting
moderation. The latest svn copy appears to have link example.com/
admin/moderate removed. This used to work but now I have 'Whooops!'.

Ever since moving to the Monolith interface for the admin pages, the
/moderate link is gone. Now, all comment management is performed at
/admin/comments.

You can bookmark /admin/comments?search_status=0 if you want to jump
straight to the list of unapproved comments.
