B Group: The weather looks *brrr* for Saturday -- If it's below 40 degrees and cloudy then I wimp out and ride indoors!

MEETING PLACE:   Pleasant Union Elementary - (Directions: http://www.raleighgyros.com/locations.htm)
TIME:  Saturday 12/12 @ 9:30 am
RIDE DISTANCE:  40 (or 53) miles
PACE:  16 mph average, no drop.
CUE SHEET:  See attached "40or53miles_FlatButNotAsFlatRouteWithFineTuning.pdf" cue sheet
NOTE FROM MARIA: The cue sheet has a long and short route similar to the routes we have been using. We can decide which mileage to do at PUE. Also, we can wait and meet @
Hickory Church Grove Rd & Carpenter Pond for those who prefer taking Mt. Vernon Ch Rd to Carpenter Pond.

For our safety ...
1) If this is your first time or if it's been a while since you cycled with us please be courteous and contact me prior to showing up for our group ride. (ma...@raleighgyros.com)
2) Please contact Tony (
to...@raleighgyros.com)
for an alternate ride if this group does not meet your cycling needs.
3) B group was created over 2 years ago and based on the Gyro categories/levels web page (http://www.raleighgyros.com/rides.htm) therefore our group
rides are for experienced cyclists with substantial group riding experience. We offer the Sunday Touring ride for those without this experience.

Thanks,
Maria

Maybe we should consider a 10AM start on Saturday. Might be worth a
couple degrees.

looking at weather.com hour by hour, i didn't the temperature get above 40 or become sunny even by 10am. let's continue the conversation saturday morning when we can see what the weather really is.

Donna will be ready to go with her warm feet. I too will watch the
temps. I don't really have cycling attire for anything below 40.

B Group: Thanks Donna for having the motivation to commit to being at PUE @ 10am no matter what weather/temps we have. As Neal suggested, it's looking like we have a better chance for more tolerable temps @ 10am ... so lets change our start time to 10am. Donna will be there and I hope to also. Bring a cue sheet just in case ... Maria

I will be there. If its too cold then we can always cut the ride
short. I think we will be Ok though, especially if we ride easy and
the sun is out.

Hi, B Group!

I will pass on a road ride today and may get out later on my mountain bike. I just ride the greenway trails from Shelley Lake so if anyone is interested in joining me sometime, let me know.

How about us getting together for pizza sometime? Would enjoy seeing everyone.

Thanks,
Diana

We waited for you Donna, just knowing that you would show up and not
let us down. How dare you choose sleep over riding with friends!!

There were four of us, Maria, Don, Courtney and myself. It was a
super nice ride - 35 miles in a round about round trip to the Marina
and back. I got to try Maria's new Bar Mitts and boy, do they keep
the hands warm. I didn't realize how much dexterity I lost in wearing
fat gloves. With the Bar Mitts one has total feel on the brifters and
hoods. I like'em. Having said that, I do think they are designed for
colder weather than we had today though. At the end of the ride my
hands were perspiring.

I always felt that I was robbing myself of good time whenever I slept
with the sun up. No doubt that would have been true today.

Since I showed up even though it was below 40 and cloudy I will have to add my 2cents about Donna not showing up. Donna, we never considered you were still in bed. We kept waiting, knowing you would turn into the parking lot any second. Thanks for motivating us to show up! It actually turned out to be a fun ride even if it was cold at times.

This was my first time using the bar mitts and I had way too much glove on. It took less than 5 minutes to switch the mitts to Neal's bars. Neal only wore his liners and even that may have been too much. Hammer has an article about them (http://www.hammernutrition.com/downloads/ENews/ENissue66.html) and 20% off.

We also had to deal with the 2 tiny dogs in the road on Doc Nichols but fortunately we had no problems. Rick told us about the crash @PUE and sorry to hear about it. We will remember the location and be on the look out ... if they don't get run over by a car soon. I guess there are no leash laws in that area to protect them?

Thanks again!
Maria
