Hi

Question on license.
Ext.js 2.1 released and the license has changed to a GPLv3
http://extjs.com/products/license.php
Will GWT-Ext also change its license type from LGPL to GPL?

Thanks

Hi Tori,
GWT-Ext will continue to be available under LGPL terms.

What is the difference between ext-GWT and GWT-EXT? From the extjs.com
web site http://extjs.com/products/gxt/ it looks like a GWT version of
ext but no information is given about the origin of the library. Very
confusing!!!!

I believe Ext GWT was formerly MyGWT which is now licensed under GPL 3.

Sanjiv,

Did you already think on how GWT-EXT could survive in LGPL form?
And ext-gwt is clearly targeting the same niche, although lags behind
gwt-ext (and adapts less "supportable" model IMO).

Only a few options come to my mind
1. stop upgrading extjs versions, freeze the project on 2.0.x.
2. have some sort of script to auto-download and install extjs *after*
gwt-ext-based app has been distributed
3. have manual instruction of the same kind.
4. fork extjs (but who will support it then? although quite a few
users feel cheated and may possibly contribute...)

What do you think?

Thanks,
Pavel

These are very good questions.
For the last point, it may be a good idea to perform a survey on who is willing (and capable and committed) to support the development of a forked extjs in LGPL.
This may help to decide.
Thanks for your great work.

This

(L)->GPL licensing seems to be a problem. Any suggestion for some
other rich UI lib for GWT? Or may be it make sense to migrate to
Flex?

Hi Paven / all,
I understand your concerns and will add a post that addresses the concerns shorty. There's a fair amount of chatter on the Ext forum regarding licensing, possible forking and so forth. Hopefully there will be some more clarity in the days to come.

I would however like to assure users that GWT-Ext will continue to be available and grow under LGPL. As noted by another user, the core Ext roadmap for the next year or so doesn't add a whole lot more for GWT users over what is currently available today in GWT-Ext or the Ext JS plugins created by the community which will continue to be incorporated into GWT-Ext.

I'll post an update soon. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks Sanjiv. I'm looking forward to that post.
