Dear GVVA list members:
Monday is the first of the beginner's nights that the GVVA is doing as part of the fledgling VCL Beginner series this season.
A group of 30 women from the Tripleshot Cat 4 Clinic series is coming Monday to take part. As you know increasing women’s participation is one of the GVVA strategic objectives. Kurt Innes has volunteered to act as lead coach for the session, and direct the women's clinic coaches Jennifer Erlendson, Amy Deardon, Glenowyn Carlson, Megan Rathwell as assistants.
Extra volunteer help from GVVA members is greatly appreciated to fit bikes and keep all the groups moving. The coaches know the riders (3 sessions so far), but not so much track riding, the proposed plan will see Kurt directing the drills for groups with their usual coach, and a GVVA member to help interpret.
And if all 30 women turn up, we will need more track bikes to avoid sharing. Please consider bringing bikes, especially small ones, for the evening. The rental fee will apply to those too. And even if you don't have a bike to loan, bring a pedal wrench and Allan keys and help get bikes fitted. Interested members, please get back to me or post to the GVVA Face Book page, http://www.facebook.com/westshorevelodrome
This is a great chance to demonstrate the GVVA commitment to bringing new riders, especially women, into the sport. Given their dedication so far as demonstrated within the previous 3-weeks of road cycling activities, I think they are very likely to get hooked on track cycling if we play this right.
Cheers
Lister
