I want to thank Brian B, Brenda H, Steven G and Brian J for coming out to
the track to turn pedals, adjust seat heights, flip burgers and ride with
the women. Without them the night could not have been a success.

Although our turn-out was small, we have two new members who are
interested in racing at the upcoming trackfest on Fri June 16th!

Next ladies night BBQ is scheduled for Fri June 8th, if you are available
to lend a hand, please let me know

Thanks Minda

Good Morning!

If you know someone who is interested in trying the track, they have
perfect timing. The GVVA has launched a Groupon today, the offer is $17
for a Learn-to-Ride, oppose to the regular $35.

Hi all:

Just a reminder of the school bike league velodrome event tomorrow
afternoon. 25-30 kids in middle and high school are expected at the track,
for a combination clinic and simplified races.

Kurt Innes will run the clinic and with the League volunteers Eric Simonson,
Bruce Tonkin, and me, run a couple of timed events, tentatively a flying 200
or lap, and an Olympic team sprint.

We could use help with bikes and pedals etc. Riders will start arriving
about 3:15 (some schools get out at 2:45). The league officially starts at
4:00, with racing at 4:30, but with the number we would like to start as
they arrive.

Also any extra bikes would be most appreciated. We will share if we have
to, but better to get them on their own bike for the session.

Thanks in advance!

Yours in track cycling

The school bike league went well tonight. 25 kids, mostly middle school,
about 1/3 high school. About half with track experience from BikeJam or
FastTrack, half newbies. Lots of dirt jumpers chasing league points, but
appearing to enjoy the track anyway.

Thanks to Kurt Innes for coaching the practice and the competitive events
(standing start lap, 3 lap scratch races, and team sprint), Dave Shishkoff
and Steve ? for setting up bikes and holding at starts, Bruce Tonkin for
results and timing, and teachers and parents from Oak Bay, Central,
Monterey, Shoreline, Arbutus, Mount Doug, and Reynolds schools for bringing
kids. Also to Brenda Hobor for coming down to check it out. And to Minda
Richardson, Jim Pauly and Eric Simonson for use of their personal track
bikes. We maxed out the rental bikes again and several kids shared.

We plugged FastTrack, and might have a few more out Thursday. We've averaged
8-10 youth riders each week. We can handle more.

Cheers
Lister

Not sure if Andre has told you all, or how many aren’t on facebook.  But I posted the following on facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/westshorevelodrome

"Andre got confirmation the provincial track championships are August 24-26, the date we originally applied for. The hosts of the provincial time trial championships Phoenix Velo, who were given that date, and their president Galen Kehler very kindly agreed to move the TT to August 12. This gives us a longer season in the good weather on the track with provincials as incentive. Please consider supporting the tt in recognition of their help. Thanks also to Peter Lawless of Tripleshot whose relationship with Galen facilitated the switch."

Please consider thanking the following:

Galen Kehler galen...@shaw.ca

Peter Lawless prla...@me.com

And don’t forget Andre who kept at it until we got it!

Good Morning!

Hey,

Facebook is no longer the best way to reach an audience, as posts only reach a smaller percentage of those who like your page. Facebook as of a week, I believe, will now charge you if you want your post to reach a larger percentage of your audience (it can never reach 100%, apparently, even if you pay). This is a backwards trend, in my opinion.

Here is an article on this, but the "how to fix it" is not correct (see comments): http://alwaysupward.com/blog/fb-fans-arent-seeing-your-posts-and-how-to-fix-it/

The best way to reach our community is through this gvva-news list and twitter, though not everyone uses twitter. Still, the twitter feed is visible on the gvva website.

Cheers,

Emile

Hi everyone,

Just to follow up. I am not saying we should abandon Facebook. We will continue maximizing what we can to reach out and communicate. However, the best way to get in touch with the community (RIGHT NOW) is through email and twitter (as it is automatically fed to the gvva.bc.ca page). So please read emails and go to the website for updates and important info, and don't simply rely on Facebook.

Thanks,

Emile

PS please try to limit discussion or commentary on this list as I am sure some people are tempted to turn the list off sometimes :)
