Dear K-A Lions,
As many of you already know, our own Lion Darren Duff has been hired
to become a tour guide for "Dialog in the Dark", starting August 30 at the
Atlantic Station Exhibit Center (see attached). This will be
an opportunity for sighted individuals to experience what it is like
to have complete visual impairment.
Lion Ellen Cox has already provided expert assistance to Darren and
Kenya for his upcoming challenge and daily commutes to and from training
and work. I have had the privilege to accompany Darren and Kenya the last
two days for this exciting opportunity. Darren has already been recognized
as an organizer, motivator and leader to all involved in this
project. Kim, in her own right, is taking no back seat with her
own personal accomplishments.
I would like club members and friends to consider two things:
One is to offer Darren assistance in his commutes to/from the nearest
express bus lot and perhaps to/from his work location. I know he
especially needs some assistance next week. Unfortunately, to date, the
City of Acworth has not provided adequate sidewalks from their home to the
lot.
The other is for us all to consider taking the tour as a group. I
know it will provide a special appreciation to those that attend as to
what challenges individuals like Darren and Kim go through in daily life.
Additionally, during our regular meetings in September, Kim and Darren have
agreed to be our Guest Speakers, giving us some idea as to what they have
experienced in their lives so far. Darren can be reached at
duf...@gmail.com or
678-936-6113.
Please carefully consider all of these items as we move forward as Lions to
"Serve".
Thank you,
Lion Dan
