Introducing 'editions' in the API

We recently created a US edition of the Guardian homepage to display content that is more interesting for our American audience. The US edition can be found on http://www.guardiannews.com - users in the US are taken to this page by default, and others can switch to this edition using a drop-down on the top left of any Guardian page.

To allow access to the different versions of these pages we have introduced an "edition" parameter into the api.
To retrieve the US edition, add ‘edition=US’ to the parameters:
http://content.guardianapis.com/.json?show-editors-picks=true&edition=US

To retrieve the UK edition, add ‘edition=UK’ to the parameters:
http://content.guardianapis.com/.json?show-editors-picks=true&edition=UK

If the parameter is omitted or empty the API will default to the UK edition:
http://content.guardianapis.com/.json?show-editors-picks=true

When you follow the links above, the API issues a redirect to either /us-home or /uk-home. These are internal paths on which the different editions live within our CMS though we cannot guarantee that these will stay that way. We recommend that you use the URLs shown above and let the API issue the appropriate redirects instead of hard-coding the /us-home or /uk-home paths. You may also need to configure the library you use to connect to the api to follow redirects.

We have also added the edition parameter in our api explorer - http://explorer.content.guardianapis.com - so that you can try it out.
