Subject: Bugs with Guardian WordPress plugin
hi guys,

Renai LeMay -- I'm the publisher of Australian technology media outlet
Delimiter (http://www.delimiter.com.au).

I've been running the Guardian WordPress plugin on Delimiter for about
a week, using it to publish technology news from the Guardian on
Delimiter.

However, over the past few days we have been suffering significantly
from site slowness. In addition, the Guardian Wordpress plugin seems
to have several times taken stories down and re-published them. We
know this because we have our site set to post new stories to Twitter
when they're published -- and all of the Guardian stories we had
published over the past week arrived at once through our Twitter
account.

Can the Guardian clarify if it's seen these bugs before, and what
might be causing them? I really like the functionality of the plugin,
and it's a good match with Delimiter -- but obvious, if it's going to
take our whole site down and re-publish articles, that's behaviour
that we can't work with.

In any case, let me know your thoughts and how to proceed etc.

Kind regards,

Renai LeMay
Editor + Publisher, Delimiter

Subject: Re: [guardian-api-talk] Bugs with Guardian WordPress plugin

Hey Renai,

You are the first person to let us know that you've been experiencing such
an issue, and as such I'm afraid I can't be a huge amount of help right now.

I'm not aware of anybody else having the same issues as you, but I'd
appreciate it if you could give me some information (off list if
appropriate) about your traffic, the number of guardian articles you've
republished and any further debugging or testing you have done to determine
if our plugin is the cause of your issues.

The plugin has functionality to attempt to check each story with the
content-api each 24 hours period to ensure that those stories are still
available.  If it is unable to communicate with the API for some reason, it
will take the story down as it assumes that the story must be unavailable
from now on.  It will however keep rechecking and if it is able to get a
response from the API next time it checks, it will restore the story.
I didn't think it would auto-tweet the story a second time, but that could
either be a bug in the way we republish the story, or it could be an
unfortunate combination of your tweeting plugin and our plugin.

We are not aware of a public facing Content API outage in the last week,
although we did do a release last week, but you shouldn't experience any
downtime or failure to connect during a release.

I hope that given some more information I can be of help to you.
