I am starting development for mobile apps and my prime choice of platforms will be android and ios only.
For this my gut feeling is to go with development in native languages, but I also have to consider any cross platform tools which will allow me to build web apps common for both the platforms.
I have started investigating into Appcelerator and PhoneGap and my experience has not been too great. The IDE itself for appcelerator is not very great and then the documentation of PhoneGap is very limited.
Can someone help me with the advantages and shortcomings of using these cross platfrom tools.
My apps will be handling a lot of server calls to fetch data and render them in lists, so obviously the first need would be the ability of app to handle multithreading. I was unable to find a very satisfying response regarding multithreading on the forums of either of the two mentioned tools.

Pls share your experiences if you have ever used these tools

Thanks
Shantanu

Try IBM Worklight which is built on PhoneGap ( http://www-01.ibm.com/software/mobile-solutions/worklight/ ) and is excellent for apps doing a lot of server calls. The developer edition is free
