Dirty Spokes 6/9hr Yargo Mtn Bike race had right at 400 registered
participants... racers rode 1,278 total laps and put in 14,058 miles
during the race.
Tim, Dirty Spokes, put on a great race, the trail was near perfect
with previous day rain, knocking down the dust and making for fast
conditions. Weather-wise, was great that there was no rain, mid-day
temps were 90+ degrees, made it TOUGH on endurance solo racers. The
Winder EMT, were out at the course, all throughout the afternoon
portion of the event, attending to de-hydrated and injured riders (not
so great).
Team GTC (Julie & Mark) completed 9 Laps in the nine hours (100 - off
road miles), keeping it consistent all day, and taking 1st place in
the Co-ed 9hr class.
This go around, there were NO OTHER Co-Ed 2 person 9hr competitors.
The addition of “MASTERS” category, pulled one team, and the others,
all raced 6hr instead of 9hr. We still treated it like a race, with
our goal to have a descent 24hr race up in NC, in 3 weeks, coming up
quickly. Let me tell you, we could not imagine (but need too), having
to race at that pace 3 times as long. Ohh the insanity!!!
Markiemark, got in some good TV time for GTC, watch 1:40-2:30, as I
attack with 250+ racers chasing me down the road and first into the
woods!

Camped out with other Mtb’ers all weekend. The Lake with the full
moon was pretty spectacular!
