GTC’ers –Mtn Biking
This past weekend, was a Georgia State Series, US Cup, SERC, South
East Regional Conference Mtn Bike Race out at our LOCAL trails, Ft
Yargo. Heck they need to find one more name to add for excitement of
these races!
Conditions were dry, dusty, and hot and fast…
Julie and I both were racing in our Sport Classes, two 10.5 mile laps,
total 21 mile race.
Pre-Race Picture on the line!

I hole shot the start, let one guy, lead first single-track section,
once out on the power-line hill, I attacked, taking one other rider
with me. In the MONSTER MILE, we started getting into OTHER class
traffic, kept a good pace, getting a gap on our class. Start of lap
two, the other rider, got just out of site on me, with backing down a
little, to try NOT to BLOW-UP! Finished strong, about a minute behind
first, and a minute ahead of third. First place, at some point,
smacked a tree, and could barely get on podium (hence only one armed
raised in pic above), he thought he may have a fractured collar bone….
How can you tell if Markimark is having a good race Flying !!!!!!!!!

Julie was leading, when approaching the granite creek crossing (there
is now an option to bypass, requiring a little up-hill), day before
practicing I encouraged her to ride straight through creek, avoiding
one more little grunt-hill. Well, as many racers going through
creek, the granite, became slick as snot, they eventually blocked it
off, with several rides hurt! Julie tried it before it was closed,
leading the women’s Sport class, and went down, causing an un-
repairable chain jam, here first DNF…..Not a happy camper.
